I no longer much followed rock music by 1984. There were a couple of memorable things from the era, one was this tune:

which benefits from no production (past a chorus box) or vocals, you hear what a marvelous tune and changes is there nakedly.

The Police Every Breath You Take almost didn't even get recorded... it's a very 1984 kind of deal thematically anyway.

I felt seriously vindicated when Miles covered Cyndi Lauper Time After Time not long after the original. - I told you f**kers.

V is cheeseball but it's a classic. Love it. I remember having a crush on the main female reptilian.

Treasure is a bit boring imo. For me it's back it up one year to Head Over Heels. Great album. And of course the much later classic heaven or las vegas.

Treasure isn't at the top of my list either, but compared to the overtly commercial stuff that was funnelled at me as a ten year old, it was an ear opener.

For the 1980s samplists out there, here's a block rockin' number from legendary overthinkers, 23 Skidoo (before they vanished into Gamelan inspired impenetrability); the epic "Coup". Released in '84.

eh?

Madonna is my bitch. Or actually the other way around.

Ash Ra Tempel's Manuel Göttsching released E2-E4, in '84. An album that created a template for future electronica.

eh?
