Anyone come across any info yet if assigning a control to a macro still locks up the destination control? Or is it set free like with the modulator devices?

Ableton "updates" have become a joke

v9 had real improvements in its lifespan and lasted years, but since v10 and v11, that has completely changed

Frequent expensive updates are the future for Ableton users

Live 9 lasted longer than any other version, its a significant outlier, so you're kinda cherry-picking there. In response its reasonable to point out that 10, and 11 have lasted at least double the time of any version prior to Live 8.

Live 1.0 30 October 2001
Live 2.0 22 December 2002 : 1 year 2 months later
Live 3 10 October 2003 : 10 months later
Live 4 28 July 2004 : 8 months later
Live 5 24 July 2005 : 12 months later
Live 6 29 September 2006 : : 1 year 2 months later
Live 7 29 November 2007 : 1 year 2 months later
Live 8 2 April 2009 : 1 year 5 months later
Live 9 5 March 2013 : 3 years 11 months later
Live 10 6 February 2018 : 4 years 11 months later
Live 11 23 February 2021 : 3 years later
Live 12 'early 2024' : minimum of 2 years 11 months later

Its also pretty fair to say that Ableton add a decent amount of new stuff in their free x.5 updates.

they were milking the cow pretty good in the first iterations of the software^^. pricings would be nice to see to make it more transparent compared to the last 3

Tons of stuff users have been asking for. Mixer in arrangement view. Yes. All the FL, why isn't Live's MIDI editor more like FL's users should be happy as well. Hope all that crap isn't in the way. Ableton's pretty good about that though...

It looks to me like some "new features" inspired by other DAWs/plugins: envelope followers, envelopes, scalers, a mixer in arrangement mode wow really? and a new waawwawawa multiband distortion .
I dunno if I'm old enough but - it is my superhumble opinion - this looks to me as the most boring sensationless Ableton upgrade.
Yet, I immediately pressed the take-my-150-quids button as, ofc, I have no choice
<3 Ableton anyway (but my feeling is that to cope with the competitors - see Bitthing - they could have done a little more). Maybe they'll slip some new banks/sounds/patches in..

There is anew device that is not being promoted much, it is a little thing but very useful for those using hardware:

CC Control

CC Control is a new utility device that can be used to send MIDI CC messages to hardware devices, or used in automation lanes on MIDI clips to send out MIDI CC data during a performance.

There are default controls for mod wheel, pitch bend, and pressure data, as well as several additional custom controls that can be configured for individual MIDI messages. The custom controls also appear on Push for easy navigation.

The Custom A button control can be used to send Sustain messages by default, or if set to another CC message, can toggle between sending minimum/maximum values to a MIDI device.

If CC automation already exists for the same CC message chosen in the device, the data will be merged.

The scale functionality looks cool, and I'm glad to see it's overridable per clip.. but is there the equivalent of a 'scale track' so key changes can be sequenced in the arranger ?

It actually isn't global, the name is "Current" as it corresponds to the clip focused. It is not exactly intuitive to explain it, but it doesn't force the whole project into a scale.

I'm guessing at this point that there must be something in the Ableton architecture that makes it incredibly difficult for them to implement the capability to destructively edit audio files in Session View. Gosh Darnit!!!!

well I'm not saying that Ableton is not the best, or that it is bad to be inspired by others.
I'm just saying that to stay ahead of the competition they could have thought of something really cool and needed, such as, for example:

TO BUY OUT CLYPHX and integrate it as a - much much much needed - new supercool feature, also accessible for beginners and non-scripters.

Yeah I read the same thing, hence the question. I guess if we take that list to literally only mean Max for Live devices then rack macros would not be included, but that would be an odd omission wouldn't it?
