I think the ones Mark Barton had a hand in tend to be bettermachinesworking wrote: Sun Oct 13, 2024 3:47 am Yeah I'm really confused by this, Atomika is a near perfect emulation of a Polivoks, but when I A/B'd their Memorymoog emulation against mine it was absolute shit, one of the worst emulations I'd heard. It's hard to imagine these are from the same company? I feel like emailing them and encouraging them to have another go at the Memorymoog. I mean it's obvious they can pull it off.
Cherry Audio's next synth is (probably) a Polivoks on steroids

Was he involved in their Jupiter6? I quite like that one, reminded me very much of the real deal, especially the sync/cross mod was very good for sw. Usually I find that kind of thing is poor in sw but that sounded right. It seems like Barton can definitely do overdrive/distortion well...

It's as grungy as I expected. Not exactly versatile, but it's not meant to be, although I did make a nice saw pad which I've attached here: Should be able to just drag and drop it.
In the short time I've demoed it I've enjoyed it the most out of all their synths. Possibly their best sounding synth.
A thumbs down though for the lack of filter envelope retrig in mono. So annoying. I made a post on their official forum asking for a retrig option, but they ignored requests for a last note prio option on Miniverse, so I doubt they'll add it.

For some reason it is so noticeable on this synth, almost like there is some kind of lag between releasing a key and the synth getting the NOTE OFF event. It's not a synth I'd be confident I could play live in it's current state. I'll head over to Cherry and back you up on their forum.Vortifex wrote: Sun Oct 13, 2024 5:15 pmA thumbs down though for the lack of filter envelope retrig in mono. So annoying.

Atomika is Cherry Audio's painstakingly crafted emulation of the Polivoks synthesizer manufactured at the Formanta Radio Factory between 1982 and 1990. Featuring the circuit-modeled DSP designs of award-winning developer Mark Barton [...]

This happens with the Miniverse too.BONES wrote: Mon Oct 14, 2024 12:47 amFor some reason it is so noticeable on this synth, almost like there is some kind of lag between releasing a key and the synth getting the NOTE OFF event. If you play riffs in Mono mode the note before it does play again or ring out before the next note for a brief second at random intervals and it sounds almost like the note before it has ADS Release enabled before it gets cut of by the new note even when the patch does not use release.
It sounds like how you describe it with Atomika that there is a Random lag between the note Change.
I haven't bought any of their Mono Synths after the Miniverse Because of it and that They refuse to add Last note priority to it and said that the workaround would be to play the Miniverse in Poly mode which makes it not behave the same way as a Mono Synth.
The Miniverse sounds great and Extremely Close to the OG but the Lag bug and no Last note priority in Mono mode made me uninstall it.

It's only lagging on the release of the old note, NOTE ON events happen as they should. It only affects non-legato playing. I can still sequence in Studio One and it's fine, as long as I leave a tiny gap at the end of each note, like a 1/32 rest, but it's harder to play manually than I think it should be. It feels wrong. Nothing I can't live with but it would be better if we didn't have to.
Anyway, this thing has prompted me to have a closer look at some other Cherry synths. I've just been playing around with their Pro-Soloist and it's also a ripper. Huge bottom end and nice filter. Stupid GUI but I can live with that. Next on the list is their MS-20 but it can wait until the morning.

I don’t get it either. I’ve got plenty of criticism for almost any product, but I don’t really ever write a company off. Even during Arturia’s dark times, I found myself getting some great sounds out of some of their software, and I was first in line to praise them when they started turning things around.machinesworking wrote: Thu Oct 10, 2024 5:20 pmLol I'm usually a Cherry hater, I'm still a bit upset at how bad the Memorymoog emulation is, but this thing is amazing, I did exactly what Bones posted within the first ten minutes of playing around with it, a unison patch with filter madness, and was sold. Life is complex and getting into camps about products unless you personally know the developers is just weird to me.stoopicus wrote: Thu Oct 10, 2024 10:18 amI love the additions they have made to the filter too, especially the Filter Drive.machinesworking wrote: Thu Oct 10, 2024 6:26 am I couldn't agree more.
I haven't made it past the init patch, the filter on this thing is perfect.
Cherry's killing it this year. This and PS-20 are topping my favorites list for this year, and it's less than $80 for both.
Seriously looking forward to the Cherry haters trying to slander this thing because it's outstanding.
Cherry Audio’s just a bit hit or miss. More misses than hits, but that’s not going to stop me from buying something that’s good. I got that Humble Bundle deal, and GX-80. I especially like Dreamsynth, though I get the feeling that it could be optimized a bit better. I’ll definitely check this out, as aggressive sounding synths are always welcome here.
