I just asked the SampleTank 3 Product Manager and he said we do have a major SampleTank 3 project underway for "a specific EDM set" if that helps. I asked for further clarification and he also stated this will be in the base sound library upon release included with SampleTank 3.

I don't think it would be for me (or him) to say without bias whether that would suit your specific needs vs the other product (I'm not as versed in it myself, and I don't want to bother him with it as it wouldn't really help you much if at all), but that's the information I have presented directly from the source and without bias.

It certainly helps Peter, thank you :) And it wouldn't hurt for sure to
target future customers who are into this genres with such sound sets.

Looking forward to some news.

begs another question... is ST 3 being coding in Italy or the United States... or is that top secret too!!!

That's not likely (the before NAMM thing). I hope that wasn't considered in any way misleading or disrespectful, just the best answer I have right now so you don't get your hopes up.
No, no, no. Not in my mind anyway.

That was in response to BBFG#'s concern about not being shown, or released, at NAMM.

Anything IS possible but we won't know till we know.

I have no doubt it will be shown at NAMM, it was just a little ambiguous as to whether it would be released at NAMM (hence sending it into the future more).

I like Kontakt. It works; it's 64-bit; and it's available now :D :P

I like Kontakt too, but face it, it's $399.00 by itself or 499.00 with their other synths. And for me, since I find the majority of the included samples in Kontakt; Komplete; Komplete-Ultimate not very good, that means I've had to start down the good but nowhere near cheap samples from third party sources.

If you want the deal that NI runs from time to time to get Kontakt at $199.00, then, it's not available now. The GUIs font is the same size when viewing files and at least ST says that's one of important features they're working on. No word from NI if they plan on doing anything about that. As far as layout, they could all take a look at each other and see what is and what is not working for its users. Well, this thread implies IK is listening at least.

I have them both, I use them both, but find STXL to have sounds I can use now without having to search all over for something that might cost me as much as Kontakt did to begin with. Yeah, SampleTank is 32b right now, but just like Kontakt, it works and is available now. And the sounds are good without having to forgo a meal or two to get them.

I like them both, they both work, and my DAW doesn't really care if its 32b or 64b.

what DAW is that? most daws don't want both at once. Sonar's bit bridge works okay for me.

+1

not sure what the comparison with Kontakt and Sampletank 2.5 can be... first off... a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush... i.e. today kontakt has round robin, articulations, scripting, key switching etc... class experiment... load the string from from the kontakt user library then from philharnomik... how many midi channels do you need in ST to do what one midi channel in kontakt can do...

about IKM listening to its users... well... IKM has a history of misleading their customers... for the longest time IKM stated that the GUI/font of ST was going to be fixed... the same holds true for the scroll bar... keep in mind that ST was out in 2003... about 3 to 4 years ago... IKM stated that those changes i.e. GUI/font and scroll bar... are not possible because the restrictions of how ST was coded... to add things up... for 9 years the users were asking for changes... question... how is that listening to your users? just curious!!!

again... mileage may vary... giving a choice of two free products i.e. ST 3 or Kontakt... i believe 8 out 10 would pick Kontakt... if not 9 out 10...

i own komplete ultimate 9 with tons of kontakt powered libraries... only reason i am interested in ST 3 is because of a "nice" legacy upgrade/update... if it was not for that i could care less...

that is because of how outstanding kontakt is!!!

Post

Honestly, people would pick the one they could afford first. I don't feel comparing the two is realistic, but since others are trying to make it the comparison to degrade SampleTank in anyway they can, so be it.

Kontakt has been great for specialized third party sounds for me, the NI supplied percussion is very good too, but when it comes to finding a USABLE generalized sound quickly, SampleTank has been the clear choice each time.

Will it cost more to upgrade from sampletank 2, if I buy it now
at the discount price? Should I wait and buy it at full price and
get a better upgrade deal? The sampletank 2 demos sound really good.
Is the st2 download size 6 GB or is it zipped?

Post

i agree 110% people will/would pick what they can afford... that is why in my example i use the phrase "two free products"...

i am not sure you can make the statement "finding a USABLE generalized sound quickly, ST has been the clear choice each time"... that sounds like a personal thing... in other words... if an individual knows his/her libraries... they know his/her libraries... let look at the vintage organs that comes with Komplete... yes... their are preset sets... but if i am looking for a B3 organ sound... i would go into the default folder and load the B3 organ... i would have a drawbar available to edit... ST (current version) does not have that... therefore... for some i.e. not all... there are some who prefer that default and having the controls to mimic the real instrument... -vs- flipping thru preset looking for the sound that is a better starting point to go with... in my opinion... those are workflow issues...
