All I see in that link is pdxindy on a war path to silence anyone that doesn't like the price model.
Anyway, it'll be interesting to see what that means in the long run. Yes I'm skeptical because anything like that would be at their discretion, meaning what works for you might not work for me.

My post their about bug fixes policy and subscription model. I don't like it so far but now we have can do only one thing: wait and see what will happens. Folks from Bitwig fully understand that they don't have another chance with this price model. If in a first year after release will be critical bugs they will lose customers for second year.elxsound wrote:All I see in that link is pdxindy on a war path to silence anyone that doesn't like the price model.

P.S.: It's just Xindy's way of life here. For example we have 10 people and one of them Pdxindy. They all don't like the same product (Pdxindy too) but Pdxindy will say that he like this product (even if he don't) because he always wants to be not like the others. Just move him into ignore list. Simple.

lolz, until they lock this one, which now won't because I mentioned it
But anyways, until then this is as close to a bitwig forum as I'm going to get. I love the program and am having fun with it, but that section of the forum? Nonsense with a capitol N.

I truly believe this thread really deserves to get back on topic.
Best,
Dom
I'ma do it here vs the "bitwig" thread, but have to say.
Post a visible pic of something that might be a bug....get ignored. Make a tech support ticket, get ignored.
Not exactly the best situation considering "don't post bugs, go to support" tude

I always work on the theory of buying software for what it can do when I buy it, not what it may do in the future (free or otherwise).flakes2 wrote:the gui could need a rework. i also do not like the idea of getting only 12 months of free updates. otherwise it is interesting
It's also possible that you will get updates free that other DAWs would charge 0.5 or even major update prices for, we just don't know; but if you think the software is worth the money 'as is' you won't be disappointed.

are you sure you understood him right ? he could very well be talking about stability/bugfix updates.SLiC wrote:I always work on the theory of buying software for what it can do when I buy it, not what it may do in the future (free or otherwise).flakes2 wrote:the gui could need a rework. i also do not like the idea of getting only 12 months of free updates. otherwise it is interesting
besides, the theory they are explicitly asking people to 'work under' is precisely the opposite of your own.
As for me, I always work on the theory of buying software from developers who will bugfix & stabilise the software they advertised and I subsequently bought. This is the industry standard - as it should be - and will stay that way.
Any developer, particularly ones with a track record for long lasting bugs and/or the proclivity for adding new ones when existing ones are addressed, will & should struggle to succeed when charging people a 12-month subscription fee for such stability/bugfix updates.
The exceptions to this rule are very, very few, and have achieved extraordinarily deep industry penetration & software maturity before attempting this paradigm shift.
I suspect the real user drop off will occur around 2018 when bitwig are expecting their first subscription renewals ... there's enough gullible people to give this insane scheme a shot for at least one cycle. when the pickup rate is low (owing to shit, sub-par experience - see: paying for stability/bugfixes), I predict they weather that until 2019 and either call it a day or go back to the proper way of doing things.... OR cook up some other insane scheme.
anyone who wants to bank on faith with this scheme should keep a few things in mind ... like the fact these Bitwig guys somewhat conspiratorily left Ableton together to sell their own 'clone' of Ableton Live - something some people may refer to as 'ripping Ableton off'. Also, check out Vember Audio ... (Claes' previous audio development company) .... it's abandonware at best.
even sticking with Bitwig Studio's track record alone (what was explicitly advertised about v2 to generate sales of v1 ... and the stability/bugfix updates), I have absolutely no reason to believe that even if I could stomach a subscription scheme for stability/bugfixes that Bitwig will deliver those in a timely, satisfactory manner.
Better hope those undisclosed, unscheduled, barely even promised easter-egg feature additions are enough to make you swoon 'wowee wee wow' and forget about what you're paying re: stability & bugfixes.

Well you seem to have a strong opinion for whatever reason.
I own live 9 suite and max 7, I much prefer Bitwig. I also own Studio One (which was set up by people who left Cubasis and has a lot of similarities....) and it's possible that in time Bitwig way replace that as well. I have also used 2 DAWs depending on the type of production I undertake (initially Cubasis and Live, lately Bitwig and S1) but I am hopeful that Bitwig will be the one DAW that can do both.
I think a Bitwig is by far the most interesting DAW, there is real innovation coming from the Bitwig team and there has. Even nothing new from Ableton (other than hardware) for ages. When all the dust settles people will try the demo and either get on board or not....I used Live for 8 years, have loads of sound packs etc, I did not want to like Bitwig (I was a fairly late adopter) but the reality is even though I own both, it's Bitwig I boot up...maybe live 10 will come along and change my mind, but right now, Bitwig 2 is I think going to be very popular irrespective of the hyperbole surrounding the '1 year free updates' model.

So it seems many more users got access to 2.0 today. How is everyones experience with it? I like it quite a bit, but feel there is needless empty spaces, eg) the top bar, left side of piano roll seems more blocky etc.
Also, is it just me or is it not possible to reverse audio samples in the 2.0 beta?? Quite a ridiculous oversight if you ask me, also no more count in for metronome which is extremely useful to record/play midi for me... of course I understand it is beta, perhaps the options to do so are just hidden somewhere I can't find them?

ah wow, thank you so very much mate. it was really driving me crazy for a bit that I reverted to 1.3.15. I will test it out now.33tetragammon wrote:click on the 'PLAY' button on the transport bar. you will find it there.shonoob wrote: also no more count in for metronome which is extremely useful to record/play midi for me... of course I understand it is beta, perhaps the options to do so are just hidden somewhere I can't find them?
