I know the old version would sometimes not load patches properly in DAW projects, but that seems to be cured with the new one.

Anyway, the way it works now, (1.12 is the latest not 1.11 as you said) all the bankfolders (folders containing all the .sy1) are in a parent folder (you can have them anywhere) and then in \Documents and Settings\yourusername\Daichi\Synth1\synth1.ini the paths to them are set.

Adding new bankfolders is then just a matter of placing them in the master folder and making a new line in the synth.ini.
Yeah I thought of and tried just having the old one and the new one as seperate instruments by renaming the DLL but only the one named 'Synth1 vst.dll' would work??

E.g. I left the original one as synth1.dll and named the new one synth1 vstnew.dll only the synth1 vst.dll would load.

Is it actually possible to run both?

Cheers.

I'm still using the old version of Synth1, I haven't updated to the latest one.

Will updating to the latest one alter any patches i've created?
Patches that use FM, RM, or Sync can sound very different - it's most pronounced with FM.

It's still worth updating for the mod matrix (it's not quite a full mod matrix, but useful nonetheless), sub osc, osc phase, improved delay, preset management etc...
Wasn't the update meant to be backward compatible? What was broken and was it intentional?

Thanks,

Yes the new one loads old projects without problem here, and I believe are fully backward compatible, so not sure what's the problem here.

You can have any number of copies as you like installed and they will all work, but ideally would have to rename the instances not only as a file name, but open the dll in a hex editor and changing the name there too.

I would anyway still try to work this out some other way. Like opening the old projects with the old version dll, saving all the patches that are not working (fxp's or ideally sy1's) and then loading the new version and opening those.

Some old patches - pre v1.9, or whichever revision introduced the sub oscillator (and changed the direction of the sawtooth wave) - do not sound as intended when loaded in a newer revision. Many patches sound fine, but a significant number, particularly those that use FM, RM, or Osc Sync, do very definitely sound different.

Don't believe me? If you have an old version of S1 try these patches in 1.07 and then in 1.12:

EDIT: The sub osc and the reversed sawtooth came in v1.11, the above patches were made in v1.10 and, for some reason will not load in an earlier revision - loaded in 1.11 or 1.12 they sound quite different to how they do in 1.10.

ok, thanks for the info - which is a bit frightening - is ichiro toda aware of the issue?

Well, I even just tried putting the new version in it's own folder but then only that version would appear in my VST list.

TBH, running the 2 alongside seems the best way, especially since the new one will just mess up projects I'm working on, I'd have to save all the unique presets in those tracks just for those tracks etc..

I downloaded a free hex editor to attempt to rename it but I'm lost, is it hard, any ideas what I do??

I don't understand why the 2 won't run alongside each other normally like you say they can.

Cheers. :)

You don't need a hex editor. Just rename the DLL.
Now the problem might be, that both DLLs share the same ID.

Some time ago Toptensoftware made a little vst tool to give a new ID to those plugins. Look at this thread:

http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... highlight=
All VST plugins have a unique ID that hosts use to identify the plugin. Because some plugins are released in various versions with the same ID, it is not possible to use multiple versions at the same time."

NewID works by placing itself between the host and the plugin and can manipulate the ID and effect name reported to the host.
The site is not awailable anymore, but NewID is freely distributable, so i uploaded it here:

Thanks alot THK, brilliant!! Works. :D

Much appreciated for reuploading. :)

Must be a Cubase 5 issue with no duplicates because I opened Xlutop(chainer) and the duplicate appeared there.

As you can see from my signature, I have rounded my Synth1 bank archive to 90 banks, which makes for whopping 9134 presets! Also the documentation was edited to comply to v1.12 .INI file procedure instead of registry scripts.

Enjoy!

Thanks, DragonSagoth!! :)

Did Daichi go underground again? Any Japanese speaking KVRians ever get a hold of him? Hope he's not gone again.....

Kind of looks that way, but I hope not! I was REALLY hoping he might consider making this one last change before moving on!!!

A smaller and narrower typeface in the patch selection grid would sure be helpful! The way it is now I have a very difficult time finding variations of specific patches.

But I also have to say once again how much I appreciate all the relatively recent changes! The best got so much better! Thank you Daichi!

High Everybody,
Does anyone know some very new Soundbanks, which were made since the implementation of the Sub-Oscillator and the other stuff (at least since May 2010) ??

Post

I think that Mr. Wobble bank is rather new, check it out.
