Look at the comments/"QA" sessions, I remember there is one where they explicit say that you can do anything you do in Live IIRC, but you will need to look for yourself  . Some of the recent ones imply it too (but are more specific questions too)

But give a close look at

There is something like the Live Drum Rack... but nothing like the Instrument or Effects racks... not in the device images... and not that I have seen explicitly mentioned.

Would rather use a dark GUI, and Orange + Grey is pretty classy looking, not sure it would bother me if I had to look at it for extended hours in a well lighted studio, plus, you can always dim your studio lights (helps you get in the mood of composing) :D

I'm hoping that the Bitwigs begin sharing more info. with us, showing more of what BWS offers in detail, before it is released. So far they have been sharing info. about it via a dropper, so hopefully that will change as we move forward.
See, that's one thing I really like about live is the way it looks. To me it's clean and lean w/o unnecessary caffeine. I don't do the crazy stuff. All those odd colored ones make me seasick.

A matter of taste and comfort I guess.

i.e. I can change the color scheme of Cubase to my taste. I feel a DAW's GUI colors should be user customizable, since we all have differing comfort zones, and taste.

As per Live's GUI, I feel it is too bright (for my taste, and comfort), ... So I might need to wear my polarized shades to avoid the ultra Lively glare 8)

They call them "nested devices" and they are mentioned on the main page:

That is something quite different...

Yeah sorry, I jumped on the terminology without making sure they were referring to what I thought they were. Nested is even more awesome. :D

But from the first caption ("all instruments have a chain of effects which are stored along with the preset") you can tell that they do have what Ableton calls instrument racks. They also apparently have chains, which covers the majority of what you might use Live's effects racks for. The drum rack sounds exactly the same as Ableton's (or Geist's).

Whether or not they allow multiple parallel chains in the same 'rack' like Live does I don't know. In any case the result can be achieved with sends as well (which of course would have to be able to be saved as a preset). That part really depends on the routing options and whether or not you can save them as templates/presets.

You have a device to layer instruments in parallel (then the fxs should go inside the synth apparently), and others to do multiband stuff. Even if you cant have parallel series of just fx (which I am almost sure they said it is possible, but I cant find the quote), it is already quite good and even more than what is possible with synths IIRC. Still full Racks to be saved would be the best...

I see that all automation envelopes are linear. So no exponential envelopes?

I really love this dark interface, it's really easy to my eyes. I want this DAW.

You already have curved envelops for automation, those pics are a bit outdated I guess.

Uhh, you're right then.

I'm using Studio One 2 right now (totally happy) and even don't know why I'm so tempting to get this one. Maybe because of the color scheme :help: . But again, it depends on the price they will offer.

People, I'm impressed. The thread has been re-railed, turned back into a place to exchange information and informed speculation. I've edited my contribution to the thread subject line accordingly.

I quote Young Mr Grace with no sarcasm at all: You've all done very well.

It is so powerful and easy in Lives racks to do parallel chains... then you can layer, keyboard split/blend, velocity split/blend, or select via controller. I take it for granted until I try another host... Ableton doesn't always go the extra step to make a new feature great, but with the racks they just hit it right

I hope Bitwig covers this... then I will be keenly interested for sure...

I didn't.
perception: the stuff reality is made of.

Then try, please. Now that there's serious discussion again, best try to keep things on track. Thanks.
