Yes I agree.

When I've heard those samples, the same thought has occurred to me, that maybe there's some kind of clipper or something in HW, so I thought for myself, that if Lush samples were compressed, it would probably sound the same, regarding so called "presence".

Anyways, those few filter resonance examples at the end really impressed me.

what i don't find reassuring about D16
now is this loyalty letdown ie even if i forked out and bought Lush (which is overpriced in the first place) i don't think i would be eligible for any discount on any future new releases as i would only have 2 of their plugins! seems you need to have all their plugins to receive the massive 20% discount! Shame as it has lots of potential but i feel they have given their competitors an advantage with this (i believe mis-guided)strategy

While I agree that usually we perceive louder as being better, to me there's some more depth and 'presence' (unrelated to the loudness) in the hw samples, I think there's some saturation going on in the circuits etc .. That also makes the hw samples louder I think, because there's kind of compression going on with the saturation.
That's right. This 'saturation' or 'presence' is always the main factor which distinguishes software from hardware, even before other bits are tested, like the filter or how 'snappy' the envelopes are. Play a simple sound on HD and software and the difference is there. But it doesn't need to be there. For example, DCAM got it right with various gain stages which can be saturated. Its filter drive is especially good at getting that 'density' of sound. I believe Diva can do it too. (sorry for the OT). It would be interesting to know if Lush-101 has any such signal gain staging tricks up its sleeve as well.

I have found that a nice filter drive FX like e.g. in Fxpansion Strobe or Waldorf Blofeld makes a huge difference to the sound quality. In my soundbank for the Blofeld i have used the "Tube" drive curve for most of the sounds.

I also like the "saturated" filter modes in Synapse Audio Dune.

BTW i'll maybe rethink later to get LuSH-101 or not. It will be maybe worth to wait for the first update. I have to do lots of other stuff with some other synths anyway so this purchase is not really urgent anyway.

I'm not going to knock D16 for offering a loyalty discount (some companies don't offer any at all) but it does seem a little bit wonky. I own Phoscyon and the Silverline collection (which I got in their group buy so I only paid for one and got the rest for free) and was eligible for 20% off. Others who own two of the D16 drum machines, and have therefore spent twice as much as me, seem to only have been eligible for 10% off.

Some acidish jam, have no one to share with, so I thought here will be relevant place
Regarding CPU usage, it's acceptable, if you pay attention to, how many layers are active, how many polyphony and unison voices are being used, release times and quality settings.
Though, I've already shared it on gearslutz, but I'll post it here too, it sounds lovely to me :P
No post processing, All LuSH-101, except drums, which are programmed in drummachine.

Brilliant news, thanks for that!

Apart from the non change in price, that is excellent news! Very confident with a company that listens to critique and uses it to reach it's product's full potential.

I still hope for a cheap 101 version though because it feels nuts adding a fullblown synth to my collection considering what i already got. At that price i may add. This weekend SK-NOTE got my cash 20$ + 20$. Maybe if you could use audio inputs with Lush it would be easier to justify as you would then get a great chorus and other effects + a cool filter with a lot of character.

Doesn't say anything about CPU optimization, great... :?

Post

It's good to see D16 responding to early criticisms and requests - looks like LuSH is going to go from strength to strength. They are going to have to look at CPU optimization at some point to get more people on board but I'm sure they're very aware of that.

"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"

This is great news indeed. The CPU and GUI are the only features that are holding me back. Lot of love for D16 so looking forward to the updates. Once they sort those two out Im on board toot
