Thanks to all who reviewed my tune – good comments. Don’t really know where to go with it from here – Definitely want to redo the vocals now my voice has recovered, as far as the cheesy sounds, I agree, need to do some hunting for better strings/pad and drums. Odd though that I seem to be the only one getting the cheesy sounds comments when many other entries this month are so chock full of cheese!
After trying to judge last months contest I’ve created a 3 category folder sorting system for entries.
1. Dump Bin – Annoying, Flat, Dull, NMCOT, Never care to hear this again ( Harsh ain’t I? )
2. Enjoyed - To some extent, usually some element that annoys or I’d change
3. Favorites – Very little, if anything, that I’d change or correct. Final selection from this folder.

Emil a man – When I Was A child
loved the heavy guitars and the drum fill at :55 – vocals a little unintelligible, didn’t like the fade out at the end, not in keeping with song’s mood and seems like cheating on the 2 min song bit
Armadillo – New Arrival
Loved the lead synth sounds, specially the one that comes in at 1:04 This song has energy and drive – listened to it over and over.
thesystemera – momentswaste
A moody song that emotes, Notes chosen for Strings impart a very desperate feel. Great job
Fitch – Cell
Another expressive and emotive song – has a sweet sadness feel to me, good combo
Duncan Parsons – Indecision
Liked the syncopated squeek, good backing bass n drum parts – Don’t know exactly what your lead instrument is trying to be – a violin, sax, or trumpet? Only thing I’d improve
Donkey Tugger – Wrong
Another great emotive song – with a range of depth and complexity. Find I’m liking a lot of your stuff Donk!

For some reason this song evoked some strong early 90’s memories for me. Great guitar work in the background, and lead. Double cymbal crashes are a bit distracting.

Sounds a bit Sci-fi. great percussion work. choir pad swell is very nice too. All around great instrumental arrangement

Very memorable and sad piano melody. Nice arrangement. Everything sits well in the mix.

Hopeful upbeat tune – liked the acoustic guitar in the background – drums seemed a bit high in the mix.
Eric Bourne – Sunk
Lovely swelling pads, song has a mysterious air to it. Well done
2. ENJOYED
Khepira – Pyramid
Enjoyed this one, guitar sound a little annoying after a while and somewhat repetitive. Vocal samples fun especially the reversed ones
Markelford – Sloppy Tsunami – Cool Bass line dude! Love the Brass as well, a little schizophrenic on the drums, but maybe you were going for that. For me this song would play better a little stretched out and slowed down – but seems you had a lot of musical ideas to cram into 2 minutes – you had 30 seconds left though???
Sepheritoh – Pleased to meet you
Great evolving sounds and textures – very space odyssey. somewhat meandering though
Glooper – Distant Love.
Really liked the guitar parts, especially the Whacka-Whackas. Voice sounded ok for going unused for so long
Kajiki - Nataliya
Nice quiet and relaxing piano tune – too bad it sounds like you’re playing it through a gramophone, if that’s the intended effect maybe try adding some scratchy sounds to seal the deal. I’d prefer it high fidelity though
Pheeleep – All Strings attached
The rapping almost got this put in the dump bin, but there’s enough going on musically to make this interesting.
jens – simple magic
Ya know, the only thing that kept this one out my favorites is the singing – I’m sorry but this type of vocal approach always sounds a little retarded to me. Little to relaxed into the notes. Great song though – try another vocalist.
Wilkoryte - je_deviens_agressif
Great contrast between folksy guitar and heavy AC/DC riff. The French lyrics add a euro feel which is odd against a typically american rock progression. Sadly only word I got was “shit”
Wolpeka – Fly Away
Talk about a quirky little song – This one was so weird, it was fun – the juvenile lyrics only add to the wackiness. Verse is a bit repetitive. This song would win in a Goofiest song contest.
codacaoda – WhappenB
Really liked this one – dunno what kept it out of my favorites though – cool groove but overall it never develops into anything.
Twilly – Far Away
Some potential here. The vocals don’t seem to fit the song and grate on me except during the chord change at :30, 55, and 1:43. need to rework the vocal melodies in the “verse section” and maybe change it up a bit.
Schuzzphut – Discussion
Sounds a lot like the Cocteau Twins to me, kept expecting Liz Fraser to come in singing. Really liked the e-bowed guitar, nice job. Left me wishing for a nice vocal part though rather then the mumbling.
Beareded One – Solaz
I liked this tune, but something just didn’t sit right. Very frenetic scattered, doesn’t quite know where it wants to go. Some of the instrument runs sound a bit programmed for jazz performances, especially the piano – need to concentrate on a more authentic piano sound and performance, unless you’re going for some kinda synth fusion thing. Dunno if you’re going for a 4 or 5 piece combo here either, with a Sax or trumpet or both. Either way, I’d let them have a little more space in the tune. I like jazz, but this 4-piece combo needs to take their Ritalin.
Guitarcomputer -Shove me Into
I agree with others reviews on this one – sounds very much like what contemporary artist are doing these days – nice song but I’ve had an earful of this kinda stuff in the last few years– only reason it didn’t make my favs. Vocals also get pushed out a bit by the guitars and need more of an edge.
Ixox – Those Days
Very euro sounding tune – you’re accent helps, but mostly the progression and violin. BTW you wondered what the phrase “monkey on my back” means, it usually refers to a bad habit or annoyance that you’re trying to shake. Fun tune.
Liqih – Orazione Danzante
Nice tension tune here that really picks up interest at about :39. The little clicky percussion in the background was a bit distracting at times and needs to be pulled out during the swell at 1:06
7zark7- Mayfly
Not much going on melodically here, but the song has some energy, like the “virus like” bass that comes in at :40
Bonte - Radio Gaga
Don’t know what this song was trying to do or express, but the radio fade in and out was creative. Liked the guitar work. opening bassline made me wan't to start singing Steve Miller " I'm a joker, I'm smoker, I'm a midnight toker". Overall didn’t really express anything though…….lyrics might help
Kephira – Pyramid K
Dunno why, but I liked this one…. I guess for all the interesting sounds coming in and out. The break at :55 sounds almost like another song starting, but for a few previous elements (which I liked), also like arpeggiation at 1:32. The mix sounds pushed toward the high end too much.
1 – DUMP BIN. These reviews get a little harsh so put on your Rhino suits. I noticed a lot of meandering, repetitive, go nowhere tunes this month. For me, a “song” needs cadence and structure which move and evolve, thereby keeping the listener’s interest, and expressing something. Some of these don’t even qualify as “songs” in my book. I don’t plan on giving suggestions for most of these since IMO they’re unsalvageable.
Mystahr – Mud Dancing
Meandering – no recognizable theme or melody, chaotic
Michael Norrell- miss phat booty
everything I hate about this genre is contained herein – crude, sex laden lyrics, melodically bankrupt, all about harsh loops that fight each other and the ol bling bling testosterone attitude – chaotic mayhem
Blitz – Starless City
Now this song had potential – only problem it didn’t move from what you hear from the first five seconds in –click and scan to anywhere in the song and you hear basically the same thing

You’re right – this is the most annoying and inane entry this month – good job reaching your goal!

This was more like a performance art piece to me than music – scary and very transportive though

Sounds to me like you’re auditioning through my loops directory trying to find a good breakbeat loop…
Sason Lee Klee – KVR
Okay – My song may have had some cheesy sounds – but this one is the King of Cheddar. Totally sophomoric until it suddenly halts into a decent tune at 1:12 – what happened?? Slice off the cheese from the front and you have a nice song.
Spaceman – Guitar Dreams
Where??? All I can hear is something that sounds like an undamped piano with the high keys being twinkled on. Was this song about a piano that dreams of being a guitar? I was disappointed, expecting a great guitar tune with some structure. Liked the Spanish rhythm though.

Another song which had potential that never evolves beyond the first five seconds
Windchillfactor - vicious_crowd
Sitar was nice but vocals don’t really fit on top of the Indian rhythms. Need to rework the vocals and song structure so something melodic can emerge, as it is it lacks definition.
AndreasEhrhardt - Chamber
Chamber? Never heard a xylophone in a chamber music before??? And I want to strangle that violin player pissing his unrelenting riffs all over the piece and his fellow players. Nothing sticks out here melodically either.
Barnadine – NewInjuns
This is campy, quirky and a bit offensive to my indian sensibilities. The yodeling is just plain silly. The weird scattering effect at the end does nothing for the song except sounding like your mp3 was improperly encoded.
Miro - Dirty City
Dirty Song – Meaning nothing really comes out here – muddy vocals mostly make it so. Drums where nice though.
Mr. Tune – Dub side of Tune
Don’t like the fade in, but the first 20 seconds of the song are nice, until you hear that same phrase another 20 times…Arghh!
rsmus7 - Gitanero
Another “Harsh on the High End” mix. I think it was mostly this element that turned me off this tune – sounds like you’re playing through sandpaper walls – The bass line needs to be cleaned up rhythmically and nuanced – sounds both mechanical and sloppy at the same time.
TristezaOrange - IfICouldFindTheWords
That would’ve been nice – then you could tell me just what you were doing – this song sounds like clowns on opium.
Thomasc dk – Odd
Indeed. Not bad for trying to be odd – just too much odd and nothing more – good soundtrack material though
Tancos – Threnody
Strangeness abounds – haunting flute sound coupled with the spooky background – a melody would have been nice, instead of the improvised mayhem, but at least you keep it in key. Maybe if I listen to it 100 times I’ll start to hear a melody.
Dirt – Second Skin
Again – listen to the first 20 seconds and you’ve got the whole song. Vocals were cool, would help to make them a bit more sung then spoken. BTW hope you have time to correct the naming to meet the rules.
Vurt – May Bee
Sorry Vurt, you fell into the garbage bin m8. I usually like your stuff, but none of your instruments are playing in key with each other – if you’re trying to be atonal – fine , but just know - I hate that shite! Might be a great accompaniment for a little chemical excursion though.

Also I'm kinda looking for a female vocalist, I was thinking if I can write tracks, send it to them, they can send me a high grade MP3 back um-mixed, where I can then tweak and the likes of, this concept really excites me, so if any one has any concepts of this kind that would be FAT!!

Is everyone able to get the song and are the mp3 tags coming up (they don't on my machine, I have no idea why. They come up on the local files, but not off my web host.Anyone know why?) Anyway, I changed the file name so that the appropriate information comes up that way...

If Fellini made a video game – this would be the soundtrack. I love the “crack” near the end of most measures. Like tango music. Reminds me of an old Tuxedomoon song. I find the mix of seemingly traditional instruments like the accordion and that crack noise at odds to the more synthetic sounds of the drums and strings. That may be your intention. If so, this is suitably strange.

Yes the intention was to mix traditional with synthetic, and I think that maybe this little tune could be a start for a more elaborate compostition,
that's why I care so much to collect all the reviews I got this month.
