Yeah, I'm really enjoying this synth, but I do hope they implement ADSR at some point. I'm missing it.e-crooner wrote: Mon Nov 02, 2020 5:21 pmWell, maybe it doesn't matter with your sounds (for your music gate would be enoughBONES wrote: Mon Nov 02, 2020 5:18 amTo what end? I am yet to come across a situation where I've felt the lack of a release parameter was limiting what I could do. And oberhausen is easily my most used synth over the past couple of months so if it was an issue, it would have reared its ugly head by now. It's something that would once have put me off but I discovered with Waldorf's Rocket that it just doesn't matter.e-crooner wrote: Sun Nov 01, 2020 4:58 pmThere is so much empty space at the bottom, they could easily do it like this:), but it sure would with many of mine. For instance, when I use an envelope for pitch modulation, I often need very different settings for decay and release.
And I am not the only one for whom those rudimentary envelopes are not enough.

I don't know, have you noticed some small, very discrete circles in the GUI? There is one of them just below the attack knob of ENV1, for example (there are others near the resonance, unison, LFO2 and levels controls). It's clear they considered some small knobs there. Maybe we'll see them (and maybe more) in an update?chk071 wrote: Mon Nov 02, 2020 5:46 pm I don't think they'll implement it, TBH. It isn't there in the original.

I'm $30 poorer now, thanks to you.

Interesting. Downloading the bx_oberhausen demo now. I have been avoiding it for a long time, so need to either get it or forget it for ever for the peace of mind.chk071 wrote: Mon Nov 02, 2020 12:01 pm I think Oberhausen's filter is vastly superior to that in SEM V (which is, Arturia style, just a bog standard filter, and doesn't really have much of the character of the original's filter).

Just few mins with demo and mind blown. It's all about the sound. Such a simple synth, but the filter and unison make it really powerful. As you said, the filter is indeed noticeably better than SEM V.LoveEnigma18 wrote: Mon Nov 02, 2020 6:19 pmInteresting. Downloading the bx_oberhausen demo now. And NKS compatibility is an icing on the cake.
Well, looks like I will be $30 poorer too now.

It even has NKS export - something I’ve only come across elsewhere with u-he plugins (not had a chance to test how well it works yet though)LoveEnigma18 wrote: Mon Nov 02, 2020 6:56 pmJust few mins with demo and mind blown. Now I've had a chance to test it on the Luftrum bank - it actually does it better than the u-he exporter in that it not only retains bank information (currently just the latest Zebra does that) but it also exports previews!!

Oberhausen is a wonderful synth if you just never open the presets, never open the effects bank -- that stuff is garbage. The core synth emulation itself is bonkers good. The lack of a traditional ADSR has never bothered me -- it's an emulation, demanding such changes of 1:1 emulations is weird, because If that's a deal breaker, then clearly you're not very interested in the synth being emulated in the first place. The limitations of a given synth can be part of its particular identity and even charm. You could spend all night listing the things an SEM module can't do -- who cares?
Personally, I really love the TMT mode. I usually set it to 8 or 16, and I find the variance it provides note-by-note to be pleasing, musical and dynamic pretty much 100% of the time. Sure, you could get similar results in other synths with a lot of subtle modulation across numerous properties, but it's nice how quickly you can dial-in a patch that sounds rich and 'analog' without needing to program in all those extra details.
Great stuff. Just avoid the presets and effects, they stiiiiink!

Ooh, ooh, I know the answer to this - it's because those people are braindead morons, suffering from a massive dose of the Emperor's new clothes. Nothing oozes character when it doesn't even respond to velocity. It just doesn't and none of those things ever did. Any semblance of that you hear from old recordings is down to the performance skill of the player, not the instrument he/she is playing.chk071 wrote: Mon Nov 02, 2020 10:53 amIt won't replace a synth which oozes the same character out of every note you play though. And, I'm sure you know that. Why would anyone buy a Oberheim or a Moog synth otherwise?
Is this a serious question? The fun is the same as every other synth. The fun is expressing yourself and with an emulation you have many more opportunities to do that because an emulation will respond to velocity, after-touch and even full MPE, not just note on/off.If all that can also be achieved with hours or tedious work, to get the same result.Where's the fun in that though, and where's the fun in an emulation.
What you fail to realise is that the aim of creating a perfect copy of someone else's work is completely lame and unworthy. I don't use ARP Odyssey because I want to make the same sounds as Dave Formula or Billy Currie, I use those synths because I want to create brand new sounds for my own work. Even when I am working on covers, I don't want to slavishly recreate the original, I want to take the essence of the original and add my own slant to it. Otherwise you are just like those lame K-Tel knock-off records from the 70s.You might as well say you can achieve everything you can achieve with Diva with Synth1, if you just work hard enough. Which would kind of lower the authenticity a step again, because, neither is Diva a dedicated Oberheim emulation, nor is Synth1.
Whereas I don't even understand what you mean by "Moog-y sounds". It's a synth, it sounds like all the other synths. In fact, Id suggest it is the most generic of them all.I just don't see reason why I would use Spire for Moog-y sounds if I own Monark, for example.
So on those occasions, use something else. If I was only allowed to have one VSTi, then limitations like that would be important but this idea that you can't use a synth if it is no good for one particular thing, even though it's great for 100 others, is just stupid. As part of a suite/collection of instruments, limitations like this are of no consequence and it makes no sense to focus on shit like that.e-crooner wrote: Mon Nov 02, 2020 5:21 pmWell, maybe it doesn't matter with your sounds (for your music gate would be enough), but it sure would with many of mine.
