In fact, it turns out the mp3s I got from Amazon (in exchange for codes in soft drink bottle caps and boxes) are encoded in at least 5.1; I didn't notice last time that all my computer speakers are sounding and the Matrix button is off. Nice. In fact, it's FABULOUS, baby!

[edit] No, that's not so. All my old music is now coming through on all speakers, even without matrixing. Automatic driver update that I didn't notice? No idea. (Is it even possible to have mp3s with more than stereo? I've never considered it. Something to investigate I suppose.)
