If it had image thumbnails for it's instruments and effects, video player/clip-timeline, flexible fader mixer that isn't cemented to one window and unable to be expanded, a horizontal instrument / fx rack that can't be rotated to be vertical or be detached, some actual GUI colour customisation... then I might have been interested if I were was ever wanting to switch DAWs, but it honestly still feels all too restricted like being a mouse in a shoe, compared to Studio One which is far more open and flexible.

Bitwigs normal retail price is just too high for what it offers. £199 is more respectable, sale price I would have it at £120.. and no more.

Renoise has a similar feeling to Bitwig Studio, but it's GUI is far more customisable.

I took the chance to buy a crossgrade into Cubase last month or so.

Cubase 4 was the DAW I started with and it feels nice to get back kinda. The main reason though is that I am experimenting with Ambisonics and Bitwig itself is not capable of doing this.

I might still route Bitwig outs into Cubase, because Bitwig fills a few gaps I miss in Cubase and vise versa.

Have been demoing the free version for a while.. I'll probably do it.

I was expecting a lack of good hardware integration for my setup, but it turns out that the scripts by Moss are actually a lot better than the custom scripts I'm using for Live. And there are a few other things that make me want to get it, namely the hybrid clip/arrangement workflow and it seems to run more stable than Live 11 for me. Also the streamlined processes are kind of fun. I'm sure I will find enough reason to use both though.

Its about the price for an upgrade from 8-track during one of their sales. I‘d say its a smart move and not that limited as it seems, considering that you can get the 8-track for free easily…
Ah, and I could buy three more Bitwigs if I wanted…

Post

I want it for some reason, but I feel like I should first sell one of my half dozen DAWs to make room for it.

Don't sell your DAWs. You'll buy them back eventually (I bought Live I think 5 times by now :D :dog: ). Just remove them from your computer and pretend you only have one.

Wise words. I did exactly the same. Because It is cheaper to update it to actual versions when I have an unbeatable urge to use something else than to buy used. Also, I sometimes need to return to old projects and need all DAWs where I created them.

I'm having a blast. Love the workflows and a lot of the little details! Well worth it!!

Man! I think you should remove your computer instead :D

I think I've purchased Live for the last time now... yes, I'm sure of it. THE LAST TIME!

Post

I bought it first time now. Not to use it as DAW, only as development platform for M4L devices, so I can deliver for my friends still stuck in Live…
For that version 10 is sufficient and I got it cheap with tons of extra packs I don‘t need. Anybody interested in orchestral packs, drums and a bunch of M4L devices?
For those who quit Bitwig, though not many who posted here did quit Bitwig…

People buy Bitwig to make music with, not endlessly configure its GUI. Studio One is overpriced at $400 when Reaper offers much the same for $60, one could argue. At $399 Bitwig is priced competitively against it's main rival Live, which retails for $749.

I paid under £200 for Studio One in their cross grade sale!
Live also recently had 40% off...there are always bargains :tu:
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Nice to know I'm not the only DAW collector here. :clown:

I'm a bit conflicted, I think I'll always use a "full featured" DAW and a uninterrupted, live performance oriented DAW like Bitwig. I originally bought Bitwig as a replacement for Live that had MPE, then Live got MPE. So did DP11, so Logic and Reaper are not as appealing. Basically I could have waited for DP and Live to get MPE, but nope bought Reaper, Bitwig and a new copy of Logic.

The caveat is that I really do like the workflow in Bitwig, a bit better than Live, the issue is Lives video editing and movie hosting, plus collaborators. The next big hurdle is Apple Silicon and Bitwig will win out there big time, being able to host both native and Rosetta plug ins. Pretty sure Live won't be able to do that.
