Spe3D's work is phenomenal and I can't fault his spirit. He did say that my radio list caused a bit of an issue, but that there were a lot of other abuses of the system that made the new policy necessary. I was willing to change for all that he does for the community, but that wouldn't solve the abuses of his generosity that a few others were perpetrating. So it had to be this way.

I'll still place the url for the entry up on my contest list, but I personally don't think it's a valid direct link. I myself don't like having to sign up to listen to tunes on any site. I imagine we'll get a blanket ruling on this for next month's contest, and I'll start omitting them from the list if pHz says they don't qualify.

I can only imagine that a solution will present itself in time.

Yeah -- oh well. Bummer I guess. Hope they fix it soon and try to make it a win-win for everyone.

my message is somewhat deeper,i also want to help all the endagered animals and do some charity work, winning miss world is just the beginning of a new era for the world, for me it is merely a duty to be amazingly beautiful.you ordinary people cannot understand the burden people like myself and ladyj go through just to get out of bed,i mean i know i dont even think about it for less than 50k
the message is simple beautiful people can save the world :D

why vurt you are dangerously close to "The Message"

here is a quick note...

There will be another big catastrophe, this one involving another huge earthquake. This is the third sign I was to look for. THe first was th Tsunami, the 2nd was the death of the Pope. The third is a huge quake in California, Washington or maybe Mexico, probably "the big one". After that the full message can be revealled.
Alright... so there was that earthquake off the coast of Northern California.

What's the full message?

If you listen carefully I want Euros, not Dollars (to devaluated). Not even "LP", just "hmmm"

Just kidding. :hihi: Magic and major label don't really belong in the same sentence, do they?

Thanks for doing reviews, aieda. (And to those I haven't responded to . . . apologies.)

Khepira - let yourself be free - Make that money - do you think labels are interested in artists with an eye on the bottom line or on artists who blow peoples minds with magical music. Quite a good song. LP
Well ... that's kind of the point of the "lyrics," such as they are, as I interpret it; though it doesn't necessarily refer to the music business. :)

Anything that requires you to log on does not qualify as a "direct link" in my book. There have been a couple of other entries in previous competitions that required log-ins (not Audioshots) and I didn't listen to them - won't be listening to anything hosted on Audioshots this time, either.
I really like what SPe3D is doing for musicians and it doesn't cost anything to sign up. If we're supportive of such good efforts we all benefit, yeah?
The Auditorium is really a very good site. So, that´s not the problem for me. But as I use garret´s auto-downloader, files which don´t have a direct link aren´t downloaded by this program. And I don´t want to manually download the other entries which have no direct link. Imagine ALL tracks could only be downloaded by registering to a site - how much time would it cost. So, the rule to submit only direct links has its right.

Ah - useless short reviews, page three:

mchlwlsn - Jongleur
Thanks to the bouncy feel of the guitar, I don't really mind the doubled chorusy sound too much. It's a nice and harmless song, and the bass propels it nicely. The piano sits well in the mix, but the hihat bothers me a bit. The pads that emerge now and then are nice. Unimaginative ending..

respirator - Biggest Hit
I don't know. I'm not sure it's as funny as you were hoping... I like the chorus, and it is sort of funky. The mix is a bit unnerving for some reason. Not among my favourites this time, but your own negativity towards it may have contributed. Medium song, horrible marketing ;)

LadyJ - Mr. Right Now
It's hard to review this without letting all the controversy and BS influence me, but I'll let the Jackson Jury inspire me to look past personal feelings and only look at the evidence. I'll pretend I don't know you and that I'm hearing this for the first time in the context of this contest:
Great parody. You've captured that meaningless MTV skinny girls by the pool pop-rnb down to a T. From the cardboard kick synched with string stabs to the annoying drive of the hihat, it's immaculately done. The three or four identical girls singing behind you are you as well, I assume? Very well done! Do I hear some pitch correction in your voice, or do you sing this high and this well in tune? Either way you've made a perfect carbon copy of the carbon copy music all over TV. A bit thin mix, but very well done and very well suited for the theme.
(I just wish I didn't know you actually take this shit seriously)

Barnadine - Love Strikes
After the MTV production of LadyJ, your mix sounds a bit closed off. The song is upbeat and cuddly, with many little pleasing details. Cute, but not extremely original. This should sell nicely in NZ and Norway, if you brighten up the mix, add a Telecaster and shoot a handheld home movie type of video at the camping grounds. Good job on the verse and chorus thing. Excellent structure! :)

kovacs - Rocktronica
I like the backing track, but the guitars get overpowering and almost creepy after a while. One of the few songs that seem too long :)
The overall feeling is a bit chaotic, and the guitar grinds away a bit pointlessly, it seems.
Hm. That sounds pretty harsh. Well. I wouldn't sign you if this was your demo, so in keeping with the theme of the contest, you're out. Sorry.

eman8ions - wave breaks below
Pretty sounds, evocative and pretty. It does have a wavey feeling to it, shouldn't scare anyone. There's more to this song than meets the eye, so to speak. The atmosphere is made up by a lot of different sounds, and although I think it's pleasent enough, it is a bit dense. I like the bit where the bass plays solo for a while and the theme comes back, I'm sure that works well with your 'visual aids' :)

Glooper - Hometown
It doesn't matter how 'Gloopery' you *want* it to be, I'm comparing it to Eminem anyway. :)
But I like this. It's a song, it's about YOU (a crucial point if you want to do the talking/singing style you're doing), and it's got street sounds, even. I like the drum beats and I like the guitars.
Sounds good to me.

Shane Sanders - Tower of Babel
Ethnic scales on what can pass as ethnic synths, with transparent beats. The choirs sound very fake, so although I like what they sing, I miss them sounding better. Here and there they sound nice, but overall I get the feeling I'm cheated. When you get signed I suggest you have the label shell out for a real choir. If you can't whip out someone else's credit card, what's the point of getting signed? ;)
Hee-haw.

Gregjazz - four flavours
The information that you're a guitar newbie colours my assessment, because I start out already impressed. Good playing, and the guitars sound good swarming around each other. Pretty good mix and a friendly song. Not cutting edge, maybe, it sounds a little dated to be a major label demo, but there's a useful structure to it, and it shows great promise guitarwise. Puts many of us oldies to shame. Good effort.

Rockstar_not - Loser
This has me stuck. I'm a bit baffled. The guitar playing and the singing is top notch, beautiful stuff. Absolutely gorgeous. But I don't get the words, which is a requirement for this kind of stuff. I'm an active personal atheist, and don't get touched by this kind of pathos at all. I can stretch my empathic nerve as far as it goes and try to pretend there's a personal catharsis thing in it, but to me it sounds like you're saying that you're a loser but we're all losers and we can all place our loseriness and our crushed hopes and dreams in someone's (Jesus?) hands and everything will be safe and cuddly for the next bit of eternity? Something like that? When the lyrics are in your face like this you have to listen to the words, something I usually prefer to skip. Normally words are there so you can use your voice as an instrument, but in a song like this it's obvious that the voice is a vehicle for poetry, and then you'll get your words looked into... And I didn't get it.
But it's a pretty song. And you have a very pleasing voice that fits the song perfectly. I wouldn't be surprised if Loser turned to Winner this month...

odavy - I can hear her
Top production, swirly and pleasing tune. The guitar sits nicely in the mix, but I'd look into the phrasing a little... Your voice is good too, although I wish you'd say more than one thing.... Uninspired fadeouts lose points for me.
I'm impressed, but would rather hear the 5/4 full version I think. :)

astanine - baby
Just the type of synth pop I never liked. I didn't understand how these bands (human league etc) got signed in the first place. Sorry. Not my thing. Leaves me cold.

sttjelle - Sunday
Hm - a bit of the same as above. It's a bit warmer than astanine's song, but I still keep a cautious distance. I'm glad to hear you sing, and that pulls it up quite a bit. Fade?

Patrick9 - sunshine
Vocoders are in this month? A little crowded mix, the guitar and synth and voices fighting for the spotlight. A bit dated this too. I'm not your target audience. Sorry.

Diek - undercover
not a direct link

Well, when you put it that way, I guess I don't mind being compared to Eminem. ;)

Unnerving?

Had I listened to the other entrants this month before putting the track together I wouldn't have. Enough parodies and pastiches already. Well now it's there. I agree. Not among my favorites, either.

I don't remember what I meant with unnerving either. :)

I'm all for getting on with next month's theme...
