Is 2C's Aether REALLY worth it? (the answer is: yes, certainly)

On Windows the only thing remaining in any of your VST plug-ins folder(s) should be "2C-Aether.dll"...jbraner wrote: It put them in folders "level" with the VST folder. Now it installs the presets, freq profiles etc etc to a different place - and you have two sets - in two different places. *that* will lead to confusion.
If preset folders remain there, first verify that there are no User Presets or User Frequency profiles in there. If there are not, then you can simply delete these folders. If you find User Presets or User Frequency profiles in here, you should move them respectively to:
C:\Program Files\2C-Audio\Aether\Presets\user
C:\Program Files\2C-Audio\Aether\Freq Profiles\user
Then you can delete the extra folders in your VST plug-ins folder(s)...

We do not install the manual. There is a link to download the manual in the DOCUMENTATION folder in the installer.jbraner wrote:And where does it install the manual?
I update the manual on occasion based on participating here at KVR and on GS and listening to everyone and then adding any additional info I think might be constructive based on the feedback and conversations we have online. So the manual is a "living thing" and as such we advise everyone to access it online when needed.
From the Readme:
========================================================
3. Manual
========================================================
The Aether PDF manual is extensive and offers many insights into getting the most out of Aether. It is regularly updated with new information to reflect changes in Aether updates, and to add information that we discover is useful to users based on feedback we receive from them. The most up-to-date version of the manual is available here:
http://www.2caudio.com/products/aether/ ... Manual.pdf
A link to this location is included in the Documentation folder included with this installer.
We recommend you check this location regularly for updated information.

Thanks for all this Andrew. I don't mean to give you a hard time, and it's great that you're here on the day of the update to help us out - but I just did a default install over the top of a default install, and noticed that half my presets were missing - that's what started it all.
Now let's get to playing with it.

No problem... I don't take offense. Happy to help... just trying to have some fun in the process too...jbraner wrote:Thanks for all this Andrew. seems a good metaphor in some ways...Kind of like throwing a chicken leg into a tank of starving piranha, eh?
So I just try to provide as much info as is needed to address any specific situation anyone faces... without getting my hand bitten off.

Are all these changes mentioned in the email? If not, I'd add a clearly placed note about them, and also the warning to back up your user preset folder.
I think that's reasonable since people are just usually not expecting to have to do that with what appear to be relatively small (i.e. x.x.1) updates.

And now the stupid question
Can I install V1.5.1 directly over a fresh v1.0.0 version on my new PC ?
(or do I have to install all the mid updates)
If anyone has the answer thanks in advance

No it should be the same...Breeze wrote:Thanks for the update and the preset selection (!). I get the impression the CPU consumption somewhat higher in 1.5.1 than before even at the lowest quality settings. Has this changed or am I off the mark? I can't compare but it's just an impression.

Just manually backup any User Presets first to be safe, if you have any.

Sorry for asking, but was there an email that was sent to current users? I haven't received anything and now I'm worried that it might be an issue with my service provider. There was another thread concerning an update with an email that was apparently sent out from another developer and I didn't receive that either. So, I'm just worried... and again, sorry for asking (on the other thread I was promptly admonished).
Available on iTunes, Amazon, etc.

BTW, have Aether stable in 64 bit and 32 bit Orion
I put the data in documents, noticed with zebra that Windows 7 seems to like data there, rather than Program Files, which is a more 'priviliged' area

Yeah - 32 bit apps won't like that folder on 64 bit Windows.fateamenabletochange wrote:rather than Program Files, which is a more 'priviliged' area

A poster on GS discovered a small issue which I confirmed:
We have fixed this little minor issue. You can now add a huge (essentially unlimited) number of presets to the User presets folder. Updated version is now on the server. You can simply re-download the 1.5.1 installer from your order history in the "my account" section of the Galbanum web store.
Notes:
1) The 1.5.1 installer Overwrites the Factory Presets folder. This is intentional/necessary to be sure we have things as they are expected to be for the Browser page. Therefore you will have to run the expansion packs installers again after each time you run the plug-in installer. It's a minor hassle, but very fast and painless... We will improve this in the future when we implement some more planned enhancements to the browser and preset management.
2) User presets (saved in Aether/Presets/User/) are NOT overwritten by our OSX installer. I wonder if some people had reorganized their Factory presets folder previously?? It is always a good idea to save a copy/backup of your User folder to the desktop or somewhere else as a precaution BEFORE running updates, but if things function correctly the installer should NOT touch the User folder. (and it does NOT here on our test systems.) Feel free to comment if you have evidence to the contrary, and we will try to explore more, but so far we can not reproduce this.
WIN Users:
We did not update the file yet, so no need to re-download yet. I will post again when it is ready for Win.
OSX Users:It seems some issues arise if you have more than a total of somewhere around 940 presets. It does not seem to matter how many presets are in a single sub-folder, or whether or not these are in the Factory or User folders. Seemingly the issue occurs if you have some combination of presets that totals more than around 940 presets.
