no i mean sth that was even before i think...
only MIDI ..
it was called Cubase GS as it was (if i remember correctly) aimed to be easy usable with GS preset sounds that most of the audiocards had inside the chips in those days: u know those HORRIBLE sounds that let a plastic flavour in your mouth...:P
but at the time it was that way or the highway (where highway means buy a mixer and a ton of hw and outboard) :P

congrats for succeding on NY's site :)

EDIT anyone quoting good ole John Winston Ono Lennon as main quotation at the bottom of his page has plenty of respect from me ;)
i rate Lennon as the first person in the music biz, in terms of time and in terms of level of influence, that influenced my way of conceiving music and further even opened my eyes on several aspects of, as musicians, being involved politically and socially in daily life...regardless of the fact i dont play rock... sorry for the OT digression

i agree with ya totally.
lennon was crazy influential on us all, rock players or not.
much of what we do now would never have happened without him, i mean....look at rocknroll back then....vaguely faggy mama's boys in seaters crooning like perry fuckin' como wearing sweaters....
SWEATERS..

could you imagine if the beatlees hadn;t come along when they did and killed that shit DEAD DEAD DEAD?

christ, even RAP would probably be "good and wholesome"...

<puke>

lennon's nutopian ideals are still valid enough...

imagine what a grate world we'd have if everybody was just COOL to each other.

no surprise he got shot...seems the last one that preached something similar got nailed to a goddamn tree (according to some)...

sorry...lost my mind there for a moment!!!
;)

that steinberg FTP site is a pretty heady place..
some cool things to be found up there, fersure....stuff i've never even HEARD of..

This might be what you're after: A GM compatible sound module: ftp://ftp.steinberg.net/Download/Legacy ... d%20Module.
thx for the heads up but it was a sequencer actually
one of the first versions for pc of cubase, i was using it AGES ago with a friend (around 95-96..sheeesh more than 10 yrs already!!)

It's exactly like Delay Lama (you control it w/ an x-y bad and a mouse), but it's a Gregorian Monk (!!). Mabye it was made by the same people as the lama? I don't know, but i want it.
aaaaaaaaaah got confused myself in the past
theres Delayllama and Delay Lama if my memory serves, being 2 different beasts

more meant as a digat TPTB...remember the PMRC?
f**k that censorship trip.

BTW...anybody got any idea what the f*ck a zip called wave23bk goes to?
it's full of FXB's. i know i recently downloaded it, but i can;t remember what the hell it's supposed to go to!!!

most of the steinberg plugs that are at the link above don;t work with savihost...snif....

wait a minute...you're saying we had hip-hop BEFORE the beatles??
i know alot of stuff was done in prose ( a sorta defunct jazz idiom ) but is that the same thing??

i mean, what the hell do i know??
LOL

about the only two musical forms i don;t like are disco and that new country stuff that's really just watered - down southern rock...

I just wanted to say a big thanks to all concerned for such a great topic.

I'm very new to all this computer music stuff, and wanted to let you know that I've found this really helpful in giving me access to some great stuff to play with. The free version of the HG Forune/artvera ASET2112 that was linked a few pages back was awseome, and I wouldn't have come across it without you guys. As it happens I've ended up buying artvera's Golden ASET on the strength of it and can only add to the positive comments that several others in this forum have sent Vera's way - service par excellence!

Thanks again,
Karl. :D

hey yo :)=
pinkjimiphoton wrote:no disrespect meant towards rapOR hip hop bro...
ops sorry i think i expressed myself in a blurry way: i actually think most of hiphop now (at least the one that gets on records) is a hyped huge pile of *****, although people like Jurassic 5 or AntiPopConsortium (to quote 2 different hiphop directions) make me hope for a change sometimes :)
i was actually mostly agreeing with you...
when the stuff produced in the west coast started to overcome any other sale in hiphop (IMO), its been a breaking point...from then on the pseudowannabegangsta trend blew up to totalize the scene for most listeners..
more meant as a digat TPTB...remember the PMRC?
f**k that censorship trip.
i remember that **** called Tipper Gore (yes people, the actual wife of the nobel Al Gore, i still get frightened to spell a sentence with "Nobel price" and "Al Gore" in the same line tho) that started all, with Zappa and the metal kids covering her of shite and trying to stop her..gosh how i hated her back in those days...remember the record Zappa released at the time? "The Mothers of Prevention" lol
wait a minute...you're saying we had hip-hop BEFORE the beatles??
i know alot of stuff was done in prose ( a sorta defunct jazz idiom ) but is that the same thing??

i mean, what the hell do i know??
LOL
uh oh wait i didnt say that lol
actually theres a group that especially nowadays has been seen as the proto hiphop ancestors and a cult by themselves anyway as band...
they were called Last Poets and from the 1st record then on, they got a pretty high attention by all the men in black: their social position was practically the same the Black Panthers were preaching at the time, hence the establishment saw them FROM THE START as possible subversive menace..
they were miles ahead of the time musically talking, mixing jazz, african-like percussion and pure funk with their 3 voices interacting in a neverending rhyme, sort of what now has been called slam poetry (a la Saul Williams for instance), if it wasnt for the fact they were doing it like 30 yrs before :P
sorry for the OT guys,,further infos at http://www.math.buffalo.edu/~sww/LAST-P ... oets0.html

mrcleats : you re welcome :)..
BTW this is the demonstration that even digging the dirt to find out gems of the past, may actually bring some sales to the dev, well done :)

Integratron:
there may be a chance that the uploaded version is the original one? i dunno...afaik the MDA one has not GUI , the steinberg-licensed one has it

i already pointed it out, but ill reformulate again in a sharper way, since some time has passed:
what about creating a community like yahoo groups, hopefully not painful to deal with like yahoo groups, only to chat and stay around and archive some of the gems that are known to be distributable (of course available only to members, not totally public, so that way if an old vsti is donated by a dev, it wont be accessable to every man and his dog browsing around, all the time, if eventually the developer is scared about what people think about an old creation of his ones)
i m already a yahoo group member for Akai, Synth1 and Roland Junos purposes, so for me its not a problem setting a new "club" over there, but i heard negative thoughts about yahoo groups last time i proposed..so what's a decent alternative to yahoo groups to create communities?
let me know your thoughts and opinions about that, positive or negative they are ;)

thought #2: do you guys think it could be useful to edit the first post in a way that can be updated when links expire and collect anyway at least most of the links in this thread on a page?
something along
"in this thread we are talking about
NAME-OF-THE-DEV NAME-OF-THE-SYNTH URL-OF-THE-TEMP-UPLOAD"
i still have some nights to spend at work, hence it may happen i have some time to waste :P , thats also why im asking

don;t wanna update the list til i'm reasonably sure i'm done (for now...who the f*** am i kidding>>????
LMAO!)

check the count:

i need a life...
1,303....maybe 30 or so are NON vst synths or apps tho.
and that isn't even counting the ones i'm downloading NOW.

hey... didn;t the original paax sampler come with preset banks built in that corresponded to the GM stuff ?

anybody got one of them by any chance??

i have been REALLY digging VSTi sampl players the last few days...

and actually creating my own samples with stuff like sim synth and stuff...
will post a link later of a brainfart i did last night, sounds like sitars on acid thru an echoplex with fresh tape (i have one of them, but the tape needs to be re-wound and i am CRAZY lazy...they sound great of course, but whatta PIA...better off almost to use Bluenoise's Mountain Echo... speaking of which....i was in the band Blue Noise thru the Mid 90's, there is some live Blue Noise on my website and the indiehitsproductions site....)

Thanks - I think you hit a rich vein here

I'll check them out tonight!

Some really nice synths here!

Especially:

IDJ3OSC-VA
TP30X by Angular Momentum
Swamp - by H.G.Fortune - scary!
All the GTG pieces - I was missing 13.L and 14.L

All real keepers I'd say! :tu:
