The cost of WUP is unreasonable. I'm ok with paying for continued support and updates, but they want a high percentage. Like I paid less than $40 for the Scheps Omni, and I think they want something like $20 for the WUP. 50% to let me download occasional BUG updates? Bug updates should be free, they are not adding new features.

Anyway, putting the money towards hardware or whatever is a better idea.

RE: Mic, since we are covering all topics:

SM86, $180

Stage condenser mic designed to retire the SM58. In short, it rejects unwanted sound like a stage mic but it captures the performance with a profile much more like a condenser. Not as pristine as a large condenser and a bit weak in the low end. But it's a great cheat code for the home studio, the noise rejection make it great to record in rooms that have less than ideal treatment. Vocals get plenty of air and it's surprisingly good on things like acoustic guitar. Nice mic to have around to try on anything except bass-y stuff. (Needs phantom power).

For the next time Waves says WUP is $200 or more.

They do, at least that's how it is for me, still get updates etc if there are any, just when there is a major version change, ie v9 - v10 things are different. The usual WUP arguments against Waves are just FUD, Strawmen, whatever you like to call it, usually by people who have an axe to grind, an agenda to push, plus just straight out people not understanding. There are still a lot of people who think that you MUST buy WUP or your plugs will stop working after a year

Oh, and you'll always get the "Waves Central sucks and is from the devil" type stuff. I've never had any issues with it, very easy and straight forward, again it's usually those either with an axe to grind or simply don't understand the process and expect it to work the way they imagine it should, as apposed to how it is designed to work. A little RTFM can go a long way sometimes, but alas.

OK, that makes sense. But I still am able to use my 9.x stuff with 10.x. So, am I SOL because I didn't do my WUP as far as updates go?

I hate to sound like a dumbass, but it seems so unclear to me.

You aren't being a dumbass - it can get confusing.... you can run mixed level waves plugins... I run a ton of 9.x stuff and 10x stuff here. I have never had to pay for WUP and I have been using them for 10 or 11 years and have built 3 DAW systems in that time on various flavours of MS Windows.

Mac users may have to update and pay WUP more often than PC users... some (not all) Mac OS updates can make Waves plugins unloadable unless you upgrade to the latest version. I have two Mac user music nerd friends who had to pay WUP on a couple of plugins or buy the plugin in again while it was on sale to get the latest version (they had to jump from waves 8 to waves 10 versions of their plugins).. In one case the plugin was cheaper to buy from everyplugin.com than it was to pay for the WUP.

Hmmm. Well, I guess all that I know is unless there is some earth-shattering reason, I'm not paying the WUP

You know, since we've kinda gone off on this, it is overwhelming sometimes to keep up with all the different protection schemes, quirks and updates for many companies. I don't particularly shy away from anything because I've been there and done that, but I can certainly see why it puts some people off.

You can do 9 and 10, so long as you don’t have two of the same plugin.

Concerning the PA subscription thing, I don’t think it’s a particularly bad thing. It certainly would give others an opportunity to get in at ground floor. However, after paying for a multitude of plugins myself, I’m not sure it will be worth it for myself personally.

Business should be not so good, i received a -32 % offer subscription for all the life...if use their voucher...

The Scheps Omni is a majestic creature. Very hard to replace, beautifully designed and a joy to use. I'm very happy to pay for it once. Also happy to consider some payment structure for maintenance and updates, but not as much/more than I paid for the thing to start with.

Can you explain me how work the news tranfer fee rules ?
