This is incorrect. OsTIrus uses a ton of CPU. The reason it looks like it's not using a ton of CPU to you is because you have OsTIrus set in the default multi-threaded latency compensation mode. OsTIrus is running its processing on a separate thread that the DAW can't see, which means your DAW's readout of the CPU usage is inaccurate. If you disable this mode, you will see its true usage, which is so high that many computers just a few years old can't run it at all in real time. If you run too many instances of OsTIrus in multi-threaded mode, they will run out of unused CPU cores in the background, and then suddenly your CPU usage in your DAW will jump to 99.9% and no audio will work anymore. Serum 2 uses way less CPU than OsTIrus on every system and it's not even close.

True. I use 1,2% with Ostirus

I think judging a synth on one aspect alone misses the bigger picture.

I think what Serum’s appeal is that it gets so much right in one package.

There are more powerful synths out there, there are synths with a larger feature set and synths that would be better if you’re going for more virtual analogue.

But there are very few synths that strike the balance between usability, feature set and sound as well as Serum 2.

Weird. It rips my CPU appart. So is Buchla. Can't use something like that in a project. Unless it would be the only synth in a whole song.

In what circumstances you get a high CPU load in Serum 2? What CPU load you will get by creating a classic mono detuned SAW+ Square bass (without unison)?
So I tried myself on my AMD Rayzen 7 5700U (that's not good CPU). Mono patch. Two oscillators. Quality is set to Good. FL-Studio meter shows 2-3% without a filter. With the standard MG 24 filter - 2% -5%.

In PhasePlant same patch 2-4% with a filter.

MiniBrute V - 11-16%. Lol.

I guess it's mostly the preset users that are having problems with the Serum 2 CPU load.

Version 2.022 is here. And really some great improvements here! Lock function for some parameters is really cool!

Are these lockers geared toward preset changing? So the values would remain after preset changing?

Cool, the changelog on Firefox comes out on a very dark screen, mostly unreadable. I guess they aren't quality checking the website with Firefox... also, I have to fill the login form twice to be able to enter the reserved area... :(

... but... this could be AMAZING...

Testing quite soon!

Confirmed, it's much better on Wine, I'm no longer having black boxes in the GUI.
It's still maybe a bit lagging on the GUI refresh when tweaking oscillators and envelope, but it's much more usable now!

EDIT: still something weird with popups when working on modulations - tooltips and so - but anyway largely improved compared to 2.0.21 :)

Kudos to XFER for this.
(Hint, hint, the free OTT has issues with Wine too ;))

Will there be a fix for this, or will the Serum 2 owner have to live with it (I mean it's a $249 SW)?

Does anyone know?

I'm demoing it, and it is still there (V2.0.22)

It's a bit strange it's still like this, but it's still usable to me, so I didn't really submit a bug report on it.

Yes, you are right; it’s usable, but it’s my only plugin with this issue, and the others were a lot cheaper. Where can I submit a bug report. Or can you? :)
