Sounds just great!

by the way, Sean, are there algorhitm equivalent meanings like, Hall and Plates?

Sean,
I just sent a message at valhalladsp.com regarding a bug I found. But I got an 'Error 404 - Not Found' page right after i clicked 'submit', so I don't know if you got it.
Anyways, here's the message:
I love the new algorithms in v1.0.8, and the resizable GUI is brilliant. However, I found a bug that you might be aware of, but I thought I'd report it anyway.
When using the Nostromo algorithm, set Decay to 0.10 s and Late Size to 1.00 or 0.99.
I get a huge CPU spike and my DAW freezes.
Tested and very easy to reproduce with the following:
Using the 32-bit VST version of VRoom:
32-bit Cakewalk Sonar X1 and Sonar 8.5, running 64-bit Windows 7
32-bit Cakewalk Sonar 8.5 and Ableton Live 8, running 32-bit Windows XP

This reverb sounds great indeed, very smooth and airy.
I like the resizable GUI, too.
Well done !

Update = awesome!
Somehow I just now noticed now how, with a low depth and early cross to the left, bass sounds were panned to one side and high to the other. Unless I have a problem with my ears or headphones!
RE: manual. Seriously, the book "Spaces Speak, Are You Listening?" by Barry Blessner* improved my use of all reverbs. You can be ignorant about the technical stuff like me and still get a lot out of it. It gives you some cool stuff to think about too like, reverbs are actually a type of time travel, in that you are experiencing the past in the present via sound...
Which gets me thinking, are there any programs that un-reverb(I'm sure there's a more technical name
) a sound? That is, analyze the reverb and come up with the original sound or shape of the area making the reverb. Wouldn't this be useful for caving or underwater exploration? Off to google. Anyway...
Not that a specific (and most likely humorous) manual wouldn't be appreciated.
* the paper "The Seductive (Yet Destructive) Appeal of Loud Music" on his site is really interesting too.
RE: minor resizing bug.
Logic 13" mbp 2010 snow leopard.
Shrinking down VR as small as it will go does not do good things for the fonts. They get blurry and aliased. I'd say roughly midway between the smallest and default is when I notice "issues". Also, once shrunk you can re-size VR's box with the handle that Logic provides to make it widescreen. Neither of these effect how I use VR, but I thought you may want to know? Somewhat funny because you can make logic's plugins bigger, but they get ugly and VR looks great when you increase it's size.
I sorta dig the idea of having (user?) predefined sizes? Either way, it's helpful to make it giant when I'm all the way on the other side of the room. Thanks!
Still, really looking forward to Übermod. I like stacking choruses with multiple VRs a lot. Umm, will there be an Übermode?
Both light and dark mode at once with parallel processing? Übermad? Sorry.

With Early Cross set to 0.0, there is no mixture between left and right in the early reflections. You may be hearing some consequences of having different reflections in left and right channels, where a "zero" in one channel is not matched by a "zero" in the other. This is very content dependent, so you may hear it on one track and never hear it again. It is just a side effect of having different delays in left and right channels.jonahs wrote:Update = awesome!

I know that people have worked on de-reverberation algorithms, which is difficult enough as is. As far as unreverb, it is pretty hard to do that, unless the sound is an isolated hand clap, or snare drum, or starter pistol or balloon pop. I'm sure people have tried.Which gets me thinking, are there any programs that un-reverb(I'm sure there's a more technical name) a sound? That is, analyze the reverb and come up with the original sound or shape of the area making the reverb. Wouldn't this be useful for caving or underwater exploration? Off to google. Anyway...
I'll get back to that next week. Not that a specific (and most likely humorous) manual wouldn't be appreciated.
The fonts are rendered on the fly, and are anti-aliased using Juce's own antialiasing, which I think uses the OS default on both Win and OSX. So there isn't too much I can do about that. I increased the default font sizes for 1.0.8, in order to make things easier to read when the GUI was shrunken.RE: minor resizing bug.

I originally made the size bigger as a joke, as there were a lot of complaints about the GUI and GUI size around page 20-something of this thread. But I've heard other people say that they like working with ValhallaRoom with a really big GUI. Go figure.I sorta dig the idea of having (user?) predefined sizes? Either way, it's helpful to make it giant when I'm all the way on the other side of the room. Thanks!
I figure that people can route things in parallel and series in their own DAW. I don't want the GUI to get any busier. Having said that, UberMod will be CPU friendly.Still, really looking forward to Übermod. I like stacking choruses with multiple VRs a lot. Umm, will there be an Übermode? Both light and dark mode at once with parallel processing? Übermad? Sorry.
The other night, I cascaded 4 instances of the ÜberMod 8-tap chorusing, with each instance acting like a slowly randomizing multitap delay. The result was a huge nonlinear reverb. Which makes sense, as each cascaded instance multiples the total reflections, so 8 taps x 8 taps x 8 taps x 8 taps = 4096 reflections. It sounded much different than doing the same with ValhallaShimmer. Every now and then, things would get really sparse, and then things would get much denser and "reversed."

I just popped for this verb after demoing it for the past week. I really did a lot of comparing of it to my current lineup of waves, logic IK and altiverb stuff. It just sounds fantastic. I used it today on my award winning native American flutest, Golana, new tune. I had previously put just a long hall convolution thing on this ambient piece. Vahallaroom just blew it away. Nice long 8 second reverb but still clear sounding. Plus its 64 bit which is awesome!

Seriously loving the new modes. So far I'm absolutely loving Narcissus, absolutely stunning! IMO, this latest update kicks it up a notch to what was already a brilliant creation. Fantastic work, Sean!!!

A very nice reverb! Bought it these days and besides the sounds I'm often smiling because of the resizable GUI. Just the right thing for my smallish 15" laptop. Soundwise from good sounding and in the mix functioning rooms and ambiences I LOVE the huge larger-than-my-life überverbs.

One thing I appreciate a lot is that it is hard to make it sound not good. It might not suit the task at hand but it mostly sounds good in itself. This can't be said of all reverbs I used in the past.
Not to forget the fantastic support of a cool developer with a great attitude!
This plugin has a lot of value for me at a nice price.

It's the "BUY NOW" button on the right hand side, above the demo download links. Once someone places an order, I generate a keyfile and send the download links for the full version via email.cryophonik wrote:Where's the download link? I'm sorry, I guess that wasn't clear. I already own Room, but I can't find a link for the update.
Edit: I just found the email that you sent in my email's junk folder. Thanks!

Send me a PM with your email address, or your email, and I'll send it to you. I sent out a mass email last week with the download links, but there are always some emails that bounce back or don't go through for whatever reason, so people should always feel free to contact me for the latest updates.cryophonik wrote:I'm sorry, I guess that wasn't clear.
