The difference between Great and Divine is meaningless until you get to some more extreme settings... in many cases Fast mode is just fine too. When you get to say high resonance with some modulations, then Divine mode keeps a smoothness over Great.himalaya wrote:'Great' mode.zvenx wrote:what mode did you use Diva in?

I have tested this Diva bass patch in the Divine mode now and I can not hear any discernible difference in this patch. Honestly. Tested this on my Adam A7's - which are supposed to be very revealing, and they are, and tested this on my headphones which reveal the bass very well - no difference. Not in this patch.
There is a difference if I go from Divine or Great to Draft, and the Draft mode is more bright.

I remember ElectraX had the same demo restrictions. These days I have such a fine set of synths that I am not really looking for something new... So after a few times of getting timed out so quickly I just stopped trying. I don't feel like I need another synth, but I think if I had had a useable ElectraX demo it might have ended in a purchase. I liked some of its capabilities and I liked the bright sound. However I have purchased enough synths I never really used that I now dig into a synth a bit and make sure I will actually use it and ElectraX did not make that possible in an easy way.braj wrote:All the talk of Diva vs. Saurus for me is understandable but not what I'm concerned so much about the really technical differences, I want a decent demo that doesn't assume those trying out the demo are criminals or something. 10 minutes is not very generous, Diva has an unlimited demo with some static that will keep you from using it professionally, but other than that you can fully use the plugin and figure if it works for you before buying. I refuse to use the Saurus demo any longer as it seems an insult to me to prospective users, like we would be ripping them off to get to play with it properly
Zebra is my favorite workhorse synth but I am fairly sure I would not have purchased it had it had the same demo limitations as Tone2 puts. It's modular nature meant it took me some time of playing with it to get comfortable and sure I would use it. No init patch, 10 minute hard limit and no saving means I will never do anything but dabble and that is not enough to sell me.
I have not downloaded Saurus yet though I am sure I will give it a whirl at some point. I just doubt that any synth is gonna grab me after 10 minutes at which point it stops and resets to zero. Even before trying it takes away the enthusiasm. I think Tone2 should make the demo more friendly to those who don't buy on impulse...

I think the demo is pretty fair.braj wrote:I want a decent demo that doesn't assume those trying out the demo are criminals or something. 10 minutes is not very generous
I mean Zebra has to be reloaded after 10 minutes.
Tone2 just added the few voice reminders.
I think Saurus sounds good.
I might get this somewhere down the road.

no need for the honesty in the statement......once you mentioned you didn't use fast or draft mode I believed youhimalaya wrote:'Great' mode.zvenx wrote:what mode did you use Diva in?

maybe it is the midi velocity in my file......as it sounds different when I play it in Diva. Either way I do like the attack on the saurus file....maybe you can convince the tone2 guys for you to do a vintage bank without them editing

Zebra does not have to be loaded again after 10 minutes... you can keep working just the notes played get odd and there is no hard cutoff so if you are right there close to something interesting you can finish up... you can also save the preset you are working on and start again from where you left off... huge difference for doing more than dabbling.mcnoone wrote:I think the demo is pretty fair.braj wrote:I want a decent demo that doesn't assume those trying out the demo are criminals or something. 10 minutes is not very generous

I don't feel at all affronted by the Tone2 choices, but it does get in the way of digging deeper

Ridiculous demo restrictions. I've tried to like Tone2 products for years, I usually give them a chance once or twice a year and every time it's the same thing. Well, at least the price is going in the right direction. Will consider ElectraX when it's 99 with expansions. Of course a developer can price a product any way he wants, but I've been spoiled by Komplete 8 and other crazy good deals, this just doesn't seem a good value to me.

With respect, this is not microscopic nit-picking. Where one synth can be shown to produce a noticeably higher perceived loudness for the same amplitude than another, and do so consistently across many similar patches (btw, notice how many Saurus factory patches clip when playing just one note), it is valid to mention that when discussing the two.himalaya wrote:There is a difference in the 'intensity' of the volume level. If that's what you are going to put under the microscope and use as the argument of one being better then the other, then something is wrong with your approach.
For one thing, it's likely to be indicative of a problem with the "quieter" synth, whether that be poor handling of dynamics, digital artifacts, some general lack of precision, or other audio dsp mumbo-jumbo - it's still energy being wasted (not adding usefully to the timbre) somewhere in the audio spectrum.

Actually you are spot on with the velocity comment, Richard!
I did kill it in Diva as it makes it easier and faster to emulate the sound in another synth.

I only listened to the audio demo and also think it sounds good... The thing is, any new synth from the better developers these days sounds great. We are awash in fine soft synths. So I am curious to hear more user audio examples and hear where Saurus might be particularly strong. Different synths have different sweet spots and after a week of being available I expect we will hear more user examples which start to show that.mcnoone wrote: I think Saurus sounds good.

I just realized that one great feature of Saurus is the oscillator waveforms. You could change the tone of any waveform with using the "PW", the "Tone" knob or both.
I did try to use the Double Saw waveform and move the PW knob while playing which resulted in a Sync like sound. I'll try to do that movement with a LFO now.
I have also realized that in my Brass patch the PW knob was in the middle in OSC1. With the PW at 0 it seems to sound better. In OSC2 this was correct. I'll work a bit more on that preset anyway.
While trying to reprogram a preset from my Moog slim Phatty i found it is helpful to use the "Tone" knob in the oscillators to adjust the waveforms correctly.

well because of Ingonator and Himalaya's audio files I just bought Saurus.... well that and that I am a gear slut, although I swore I wasn't going to buy any new software synths unless it was from Spectrasonics this year, as I really do have enough, but what can I say.....
hoping that there will be more vintage analog sounding banks for this synth....

Well Diva vs Saurus:
Diva has perfect Amp envelopes with nicely fading DECAY.
Saurus has a lopped Decay. So do all analog synths suffer from such flaws? Pff...
What is wrong with the Saurus GUI, why so Lo-FI? Check the knobs and especially the keybord...
