second skin - great discordant bass. I do think that the vocal gets in the way of
the tension a little. You sound a little angry, whilst the music sounds mysterious.

Thanks for the review. That's not the first time that issue has been mentioned about my track, and I think you guys are right. It started off with a Tricky style, lazy off-beat rap and got angrier with each take. I think I didn't take enough time trying to get the "rap" to sound right...and the track paid the price.

Thanx for the review. I'm very curious as to what genre you put this in. For me it was an excercise that I thought became musically interesting, but I didn't try to do a genre.

Btw I don't think it's very musically interesting any more and regrets a little bit putting it in the contest. It's just a thing in 7/4, 14/4 and 21/4 that doesn't sounds like a 7-thing... So I was pleased with it as an expirement, but not really as music.

if youre talking about the - ahem - manipulated vocal sample in the mid-section then yes i did (its actually quite a lengthy charles manson vocal sample pumped through the fl-studio wavetraveller and a few other effects)

The stray tone I’m talking about occurs at 1:20 and 1:27 in the breakdown sounds like an out of tune synth cowbell(?) Just seems like a sour pitch, might not be but it hits me as wrong every time. The crashes in the last section sound very digital, low bitrate and hard on the ears which is a real shame.

A-ha, now I know what you mean by the sour pitch. I was actually wondering at one point how would others feel about it. The sound comes in fact directly from the synth that plays the lead (Hydra), but at those frequency ranges it simply makes that kind of squeak with that kind of melody passage. I personally thought it was in a way cute, and that it added some humane imperfection to the track so I didn't venture into making any modifications...

About those splashy crashes - it beats me, might be a problem with the original audio material. Or I might have used too much maximizer on the whole track, I guess that affects the cymbals the most... But truth be told, even with repeated listens, I'm still having hard time hearing the nuances you find problematic - perhaps my ears still lack some sensitivity. But I can't really fix what I can't hear, so I have to leave it as it is - thanks for pointing out you outlook though!

And don't worry about being harsh, I find all negative feedback at least as beneficial as positive comments.


Oh yeah, and sorry for those on whose track I haven't given any feedback yet - I haven't missed anyone, but I haven't yet found time to write the last feeback-bunch. I should have more time at the end of the week though...

Interesting. Sounds cheesy, but I guess it’s suppose to be. Like gameboy music. It sounds like general MIDI sounds, which I am not very fond of, but this would work well for a fun video game or maybe music for a comedy, or “goofy” tv show.

It started out as a serious song and when I realized it was getting silly I just kept going in that direction instead of deleting it.

This is fun and yet at the same time sooooo weird. Great musical experimentalistic sound exploration (pfew, try saying that 5 times in a row without getting tongue-tangled). The only thing I kinda regret in this tune is that dull kick (or more like a dead tom) it’s almost like a metronome without any life in it. Leaving that out or replacing it with a deep full kick would have given this such a great lift.

Sounds like low budget children's programming music. It's a tad monotonous and repetitious. At least you warned us that it would be the "most annoying" entree. Right on about that. But compared to truly annoying music (and I mean really bad stuff), this is a veritable masterpiece. I can speak from experience when I say that most annoying songs (like really annoying people) are the the ones that have no idea how annoying they are. (I've written plenty.) They're not trying to be annoying, they just come across that way in all their ignorant obsequious earnestness.

Oh I was trying to make it annoying, but in a fun kind of way. And that is harder than it sounds to do. I am glad you gave me credit for that in my masterpiece.
