Haven't bought much guitar or bass gear lately besides some D'Addario Chromes flatwound bass strings, but I have 4 instruments in the shop. Dang, repair prices have gone way up as have lead times (2-6 weeks). Also funny how guitar electronics can develop gremlins even if (maybe because?) you haven't played them in a while! It's making me want to sell a bunch of what I have and streamline my setup.

@Roger Podacter - I played a few Reverend basses when they first came out, a RumbleFish and the Brad Houser model. They were semi-hollow, and unique but versatile. Would love to get my hands on the 2-1/2 pickup short-scale Mike Watt Wattplower Mk II - he's one of my heroes!

I bought a guitar finally! It was very difficult to choose, but then finally I went with a safe choice (Yamaha):

It's very well built with good specs and reasonable price. It's even better (and heavier than expected).
I used to have a classic guitar and this is the first time I own electric! There are new things to me like the picks and the sitting position! But I feel I'm going to have good fun with this one :)
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Yamaha makes some nice guitars, I wouldnt mind a Revstar Standard RSS20 myself. That Pacifica is nice too, congratz! :tu:

Thank you 😊
I was between Revstar Elements and the 611 at first (the PAC611 has a P90 pickup), but I told myself, let's take a Strat like as a first electric guitar, then after a year or two, I mostly will know what exactly I want (still my favourite is a classic guitar for playing and sound, but maybe because of my positive experience with it in the past).

I recently bought an ESP LTD H3-1000FR guitar, which I totally love, and a Harley Benton short scale bass which is crazy value for the money. As there is a sale running on the Nembrini Audio website, I got the ENGL, Mesa Recto, JCM and 5150 emulations, plus the Marshall pedal and the Racks bundle... very nice sounding stuff, my favourite guitar plugs along with Neural NTS and Nameless.

I got this back in May: Yammie FS3. Not exactly purty, but all that is gold does not glitter. It plays really well, lively, and didn't cost a bomb. I have a hankering for a Jazzmaster, but I can cope.

This is a very nice guitar  A little bit out of my budget. I think it has a wider neck than the 'Fender Strat' kind guitars, which is a plus in my view now as I struggle to make a clean sound of chords (compared to my Classic Guitar 25 years ago! as I remember now). I think ESP is famous for heavy metal genre (the singer of Metalica used ESP).
Congratulations for having such a beauty :)

I can't find it in the dealer's shop here, but I checked it is about $880 in Sweatwater's shop. I think I will either buy Acoustic or Classic next, but under $500.

The problem with Acoustic is it is hard to play and needs long time to adjust to it, while the Classic guitar is easier (for a beginner). I like the Classic more (sound not only playing), but that means I will stick to classic/Spanish style mostly. I don't know for sure which one, but I will spend at least one year learning the basics on the Electric guitar (Strat like), then I will see which genre I will stick with the most.

I'd like to get an ESP-LTD EverTune model some day. Those models are loaded with expensive hardware and pickups.

The neck is quite thin, I think they call that profile "ultra-thin U". It´s round on the back, but thin, and the fretboard width is 1.6 mm less at the nut than my Jackson MJ Dinky (which also has a flatter neck on the back, the so-called "speed neck", which looks like a relatively thin "D" shape).
One can really feel the string spacing difference, I find it easier to play chords on the Dinky.

Indeed, both Metallica guitarists have been among the most important ESP endorsers for decades now. It sure is a metal guitar, the Duncan at the bridge is a mean one, I prefer it to the active EMG I have on the ESP EX... the push-pull to split the coils gives it a bit more versatility, getting closer to "Fender-y" tones.

Especially the Deluxe ESP LTD have quite expensive hardware and pickups indeed. Although not perfect from a building point of view, mine doesn´t really have obvious factory errors, looks and sounds great. I didn´t expect it from an indonesian instrument, but it is much better than the korean ESP LTD Arrow I tried to buy beginning of 2023: got one with misaligned bridge/pickups/neck, various marks on the painting (body AND neck!) and a fretboard as dry as a freaking desert. The second one might have travelled before, as it had all kinds of friction marks on the body (it was satin black), it was not as misalgined as the previous one, but not perfect either. Both felt simply cheap by just grabbing them, it was heart breaking!

I meant the Nut width. In this Yamaha it is 40.99 millimetres (say 41) while in other guitars, like Schecter, it is 42 millimetres. Anyway, I think because I used to neck width (in the upper part near the nut) in the Classic Guitar which is about 52 millimetres!
Luckily, I have a small hands, so I think I can fit my fingers in with some practice (or lots of practice!). I still don't know why they designed it such narrow! The Classic Guitar seems very comfortable for chords in comparison!

Oh, yes, I too meant the nut width and fretboard width at the nut. The ESP LTD is a little below 42 mm, while the Dinky is 43 mm. I was wrong, it´s not a 1,6 mm difference, though, more like 1,3 mm... more or less: I cannot find my glasses ATM, so I can´t read the values on the caliper that good :scared:

The Dinky looks nice and there are some very nice ones! Like this one:
https://www.rockshop.co.nz/jackson-slx- ... ric-guitar

It has a Nut Width: 1.6875" (42.86 mm), which I believe is better than the Yamaha Pacifica series. Although to think about it, I don't think 1 or 2 mm is a huge difference! But 10 or 11 mm (in Classic Guitar) I think it is a big difference.

Anyway, I will spend a year or so with the current one I have, then I might sell it and buy another one that I would know how to test that time and know what I want exactly (electric guitar). Or I might switch back to Classic Guitar as I really didn't have any difficulty producing clean sounding chords with from the first try!

That´s a Soloist though :) Not that there´s much of a difference, the Dinky is bolt-on, the Soloist is neck-thru.

Necks and fretboards are all matter of getting used to. Just enjoy the guitar now, play it, get used to it and see where you want to go. Going from acoustic or classic to electric is quite a leap, take some time to get acquainted.

BTW, I was obsessed with neck shapes, played ESP almost exclusively for 20 years, I wanted that curvature and shape, that size, that radius... Then I got a Chapman in 2018 and the Dinky in 2022 and love all necks / fretboards for different reasons.

Oh, and think twice before selling a guitar: I sold more than 15 over the years and while I´m OK no longer having some of them, I greatly regret selling at least a couple (in particular, a japanese ESP Eclipse II with see thru black finish on flamed maple ).
