... or maybe you need a new screen to go with your DAW - how about eXT + a beautiful 12ms Sony 19" TFT? Or if your machine needs an update - Asus A8N SLI with an AMD ATHLON 64 4000+ S939 and throw in a gig of TWINMOS DUALCHANNEL DDR 3200 CL 2.5 on top of eXT? Ever dreamed of an UAD card? You can get eXT, UAD Project pack and the Dreamverb! Maybe you prefer native plugs? No prob, you can get the Waves Renessaince Maxx pack now with eXT.

Or then just the Cubase.

Well, given that the price of Cubase SX 3.1 leaves little change from £600... for the same money you could get:

* Sonar 5 PE plus Project5 v2

* Ableton Live 5 plus Propellerhead Reason 3.0

* Adobe Audition plus FL Studio XXL

* Sony Acid 5 plus Sound Forge 8

* Mackie Tracktion 2 plus Orion 6 and energyXT

So I'm tending not to agree with you again
Haha very interesting to see the poll and to see the masses screaming out for mercy

I use Sonar 4 not because I like it better than Cubase or Logic but because it never ever has given me Vst or Dxi problems, thats what got me hooked on it, I will confess to say that Cubase and Logic are very good products and so is Samplitude but I HATE with a passion AbletonLive, yes I probley would have liked it more if I hadnt tried Cubase and Logic first.

But I couldnt stick with Cubase because while quite functional and powerful and beautiful, the damn thing runs like SHITE.
Logic on the other hand runs better than Cubase but its so GUI object based that it scared me off with its wiring concept and scheme of doing things to get good at logic you have to take it slow and im not for slow when I have a idea burning in my mind.

Ableton is so bizzare that it scared me away from the ugly gui and interface and its more geared toward Live performance which is not me im a studio musician and wanna be engineer never do I plan on going Live to tour if I was then mabey I would not hate Ableton the way I do and I would sit down and learn it but for now its collecting dust.
Samplitude is a very interesting looking product and I had the benefit of trying it over a friend of mines house the same guy whos now using Logic, I loved it but im so used to Sonar that im kinda scared to switch so I have nothing but good thought about samplitude

Motu, If I had a MAC ide be all over this thing as it looks amazing period makes Sonar look like a toy.

Protools, the same goes for this it looks very tempting but alas I have no mac so im Shite outta luck no comments but heard great things about it in all the mags and sites i visit

Tracktion the only product that i still have not yet tried on PC , the way ppl talk about it youde think its the revelation or something but Ive also seen alot of compatibility issues on this very website so im kinda up in the air about it atm im not finding any fault in Sonar4 atm so I figure do I really need to try any more DAWs or just stick to cakewalks commitment to constantly improving on what I thought needed no improvement.

Bottom LineNo one here will cave in and even say the strengths of a different DAW other than the one there presently using, DAWs are like women, you really need to work it to get the best out of them and when you do youde swear theres no better in the land than the one you have

First of all, the list you quote is almost completely different to the one I gave, which is a little bit cheeky, mate

I'm going on UK prices. Which, interestingly are quite different to the european ones you quote :?

Cubase SX: £560

Ableton Live: £260 + Reason: £260 = £520

Sonar PE: £360 + P5v2: £180 = £540

Acid: £260 + Sound Forge: £200 = £460

FL Studio: ($149) + Audition: £230 = £310

Tracktion: £130 + Orion: £200 + eXT: ($49) = £360

As you can see, using the examples I actually gave, all these options are cheaper than Cubase SX... and considerably better value imho.

What part of the world is the UK in, then? Africa?

As a professional researcher I add to the point that research is not usable if most answers are under "other". Add Tracktion, Live, Project5, Reason.

Also, the term DAW must be explained in the question, since the understanding of the term is very stretched. What is a "Workstation"? Does it mean MIDI editor programming? Does it mean it enables you to complete the whole proces till mastering? Well, with mastering plugs available any sequencer can master...

Post

it's hard to add a vote if more than 1 host is being used too ...

Logic, Live and PT for me

I guess they tend to think they are that independent & unique that they aren't part of any continent at all...
