Exactly. You wouldn't take advantage of your friends like that but your customers
I hardly have 85000 'friends'. Your funny glasses are burning your brain cells through your retina.

I'm not sure which half of that is the bigger understatement... :hihi:
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

We always aim to release the boxed & online versions more or less simultaneously. This is not an easy task considering we have to press the CDs & boxes over a month before they get to the shops. Normally the boxes get shelved about 2 weeks later than the online release.
Actually JMC, you forgot to mention that the situation IS now reversed. There is Version 6.0.5 on-line that is only accessable to registered users.

There has been 6.0.3, 6.0.4 and 6.0.5 so this looks like a community series of Betas to me.

crock alert yet again.

how long does it take for the other hosts to release updates such as this? Isnt anyone happy that they are responding to the problems so quickly, and releasing new versions to address those problems? Beta versions, they arent. Its just that when you have thousands of differeent situations, bugs are bound to come up..

man, so ungrateful.

So you don't see anything strange about everything being made available at the same time? You don't think that maybe they are trading on the free update to encourage more sales of the new plug-in? I still see some degree of culpability there, sorry if you don't.
Why is that strange? It's good sense, piggy back off the publicity of one event to advertise another.

Now BONES, in this era of hype and over-marketing are you seriously expecting me to believe that the consumers are that naive that they will somehow be tricked into spending $80? Give people more credit than that, it's 2006 not 1956.

This was told to me by the head of marketing of a major manufacturer –

If our job was to give away $1,000,000 to randomly selected people we would probably only achieve 95% customer satisfaction. The other 5% would say…

1) You gave me a cheque, I want cash.
2) You should have given this to me last year when I really needed it.
3) The tax man took 25%.
4) How come it’s only $1,000,000, why not $20,000,000
5) Money is the root of all evil.

Etc. :)

What's ungrateful about my post? Another person making assumptions.

I was pointing out to the guy complaining they didn't see any Betas, that since it's been released they have several updates...if they didn't launch them on TuCows, it's a public beta in my opinion.

I thought they were only on Loop Talk, however they are available to all apparently. Point to note tho -

They haven't sent out any newsletters, so the only people who know about it are those on loop-talk, again, something for the loyal customers.

Tell me something I don't already know. What I wonder sometimes though, is whether or not you really understand English.

I don't know if your're readng the same forum that I am but I see dozens of examples of this kind of stupidity here on a weekly basis.

Yeah, yeah, very funny.

The updates program is not a freebie as far as I'm concerned. It's a major motivating factor that got me to the till in the first place. Without the update arrangement, I would probably have never bought into FL to begin with. (For the record, before anyone jumps down my throat again, I'm *very* happy with the product.)

The marketing scheme to upgrade to XXL, to buy Sytrus, Beatcreator, the Bible, and probably one or two other things I've not thought of right now, has worked well for me.

That's why I thought my mild criticism would be received a bit better. I think my comments have some merit. I think my perspective is interesting. I'm a professional software developer myself (business software, I wish I could do audio stuff), I have substantial production experience with releases on the scale of FLS, I have considerable insight into marketing realities and I understand the value of customer perception.

But all my initial comments seemed to accomplish, was to engender mildly hostile, defensive reactions from the folks I was trying to help. I really didn't mean to do that.

Instead of staring down the messenger as if he is the problem, maybe they will try to understand what's happened, and maybe there will be improvements next time.

They're under stress from a recent rollout that didn't go as smoothly as they'd have liked. I know how that goes. Eventually, they may realize that they received quick, constructive criticism and that they vehemently rejected it at first. I'll bet you the price of an ale of your choice, that the next rollout is more widely tested, and takes a gentler approach to the rollout, and we'll still be loyal, supportive customers.

I wouldn't suggest this kind of wording if you ever send food back in a restaurant but I'll ask our developers what can be done about this.

In the meanwhile just be a little causious & carefull when moving samples arround. As FL Studio will search all it's paths it should be possible to retrieve any sample you have in there.

About Chrome : As the idea is to use it with a decent (+3000 lumens) projector I can only say ... you're spoiling your kids.

See ya,

jmc (FL Studio)

I already reported clearly the situation about FLS samples (saving) handling :

- put a sample on your desktop (eg one you just downloaded from the web)
- load it in fls sampler channel or slicer
- delete it from your desktop
- save the fls project as FL zipped loopfile
- surprise : the sample isnt in the zipfile, while fls still plays it (its in "fls ram")
- you get no message, nothing telling you the sample hasnt been saved

Last time i told you this, you said "you arent serious, right ?" or something like that.

So this, plus the fact that you get no msg warning once the project is loaded (for missing samples).

Plus the fact that discovery isnt working in fls6 (beta testers, anyone !?)(moreover arguru kinda works for IL for fls6...)...

I'll give it a look.

Post

It is a problem from FL side, since v2.5 worked perfectly in FL5.

Post

..or the wrapper is now more "strict" regarding vst handling and a kinda hack which allowed D2.5 to work isnt there anymore ?
(im just guessing, but may it be possible ?)

Post

Well, if that's true then every other host is using a hack to allow Discovery 2.5 to work.

We have checked our code several times, tested again in other hosts and we can't see what's making FL VST wrapper to cause problems. We have given Image Line NFR of our plugins so they can examine this problem better too.
