:D

That does indeed pretty much define what it at least used to mean, if one replaces Steinborg with "any product".

But for the majority, it's a new buzzword to throw around to make one feel a part of the community... so it's pretty much forbidden to mention publically that one likes a certain product - you're either a fanboy or a member of a self-appointed golden eared brigade conspiracy :P

But at least the entertainment value goes up exponentially.

All the best, FRitz

P.S. How is that beefed up 303 going? When will it be released?
In the end will be the word.

It's on indefinite backburner, mainly due to ABL Pro being as excellent as it is.

But it's not entirely dead. A little part of it has to do with SynthMaker's development and purchasing it once everything I "need" is there.

* edit - adding 'not' to the above to make some sense to it :P *

Too bad I didn't manage with J&H (and I'm not blaming him for it, I'm as much to blame), his bass synth project would have been great if I could have made him implement the features I'm after... but ABL Pro covers a lot of them :)

YES!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!! Thats going to sound FAT!!!!
But it will eat massive amounts of cpu I guess....

It's funny you know, until I listened through all the sound clips on Arturia's site, I never realized how many of my least favourite synth sounds eminated from the SC synths. Also made me realize just how little some big name folk were trying back in the early 80s.

Post

hmm..listened to the samples on the Arturia site and I'm a bit disappointed. I have Pro53 which was one of the first synths I got but quickly found it wasn't for me (though it gave me the golden key to Komplete2 so it actually did me a big favour). I expected the Arturia version to be much better but it doesn't sound fantastic. Maybe it's the programming I don't know. My credit card is releived though...

I don't know, a lot of those sounds were instantly recognizable to me. I have a feeling that the low 'wow' factor isn't anything to do with Arturia's emulation, but rather the synths they are emulating.

The hybrid clips sounded the best of the bunch to me, in a regressive Shock the Monkey kind of way.

Any word on when it comes out?

I briefly owned a real Prophet 5 over the summer and I think the original instrument is overrated. Compared to some of the other real analogs I've heard it's nothing special. I think it's reputation has a lot more to do with the fact that it was one of the first polyphonic synths available with midi.

While listening to the samples on the Arturia website you should keep in mind, that the Prophet V is still in beta status and there has been no sound design so far. This means, that there will still be some improvements in the sound quality and there will be patches that are much more impressive then those that are available now. You should also keep in mind, that it will read sys ex data from both synth (Prophet 5 and Prophet VS).

In addition to this, the new modulation matrix and the hybrid mode (combination of Pro5 and ProVS) will offer possibilities for sound designers, that have not been available in the original hardware.

@ LOGAN: I guess, that the Prophet V will be available in shops in the US early in March.

just compared this sound examples http://www.arturia.com/en/prophetv/detail_prophet5.php

with these of the orignial synth
http://www.amazona.de/content/musictool ... ophet5.htm

and everything is clear:

just another VSTi toy..... the fantastic analog sound quality and the filter are nothing against the orginal thing in this Arturia synth.

I`m thinking of getting a Pulsar just for the the Prophet 5 emulation as the Creamware thing does sound much better.

The Arturia synths all just sound the same way in a bad VST-like way. They just don`t catch the real original character and this character makes the original synth worth the money and gets him this legendary name...
for 50$ the Arturia would be a nice toy, but not much to do with a true emulation....

Its truely sad, as I would like a good VSTi-Emulation of that wonderful synth. :(

just what I think about it...

if it sounds good i dont give a rats ass what it emulates. i want a good tone, not one that sounds like a machine from umpteen years ago.
come on you ..... lets have some aphex acid.

but thats the problem.

It is supposed to be an emulation, so it should sound a little near the original synth.

And no the demos sound very bad.... and very boring...

Even the "old" VST VAZ, that isn`t supposed to be an emulation of a special synth sound more analog and alive compared to the Arturia one...

much more alive

fair point, i guess i was speaking of the direction id personally like to see devs take, more so than this individual product.
