Royalty Free Drumloops (new here ;)

Taking this topic into a slightly different direction, I've always wondered about 3rd party devs that offer samples in various proprietary formats. For example, if I develop a library of loops in Kontakt format (.nki), does Native Instruments have a valid claim for royalties? How do people deal with this?

I would think that the various sample companies would want to encourage 3rd party devs so that they can claim prominence of their format. But on the other hand, 3rd party dev product often competes with the sample companies own stuff. Has anyone dealt with this first hand?
