Hey Fretted, when will that Phase Distortion Synth be "let go"? :hyper:
Hopefully in a day or so, Just finishing the manual. Then I have to ask asseca to be so kind to add it to the site for DL (thanks to asseca for hosting and maintaining my site) :)

There really is no mic emulation built into FreeAmpSE the mic you see is just a control for one of the speaker simulators filters "cutoff and resonance" it reacts different for ALL speakers you select.
But it really is the best place to start if you want to open up the tone of the amp mostly on the top end, but the resonance also has a huge effect on the bottom end.
Can't wait till you hear the new version :) the whole tone has opened up a quite a bit and aliasing is gone way down :D

Peace

FrettedSynth, if the new version of FreeAMpSE is even better than the current one - I think you're gonna have a HUGE winner on your hands!! I can't beleive there was not a bigger stir over the current version here at KVR. I've been playing it for hours and it really is my favorite already for distorted tones!! I had been thinking that VST amp sims were never going to give me flat out distortion that I actually liked, but I'm convinced otherwise now!

Now I can't wait for the new version of FreeAmp! And the new audio triggered synth too!! :hyper: :hyper:

Hey there Fretted Synth! I've been using FreeAmp SE for a while now, and I've got to say you've changed my music making for the better! Although I dont know how to play guitar, I've found clean strat soundfonts that I can run throught the amp to get some decent tones, so it's all good. lolz that and using slayer running dry as well. Anyways, I'm looking forward to the release of version 1.5 with much antipation. Keep up the great man! you Rock!!!
get off my lawn!!!

That's awesome!!! Have you made any progress with a flanger effect? I love the psychedelic sound, and it is essential to that style. I really hope you are able to get it into Freeamp.

That phase distortion synth is brill!!! Just spent an hour or so just messing and tweaking!! It tracks rather well if you get the setting right (and im only using crappy on-board laptop audio!) Great free plugin! :D

audiojunkie - Hello, no sorry still have not tried the flanger yet! but will :) been working on a solution to the slowgear (swell fx) should be pretty cool :D instaed of just the level swell it will offer an amp and filter w\modulation, so basically one of my synths placed after the amp, before the verb and delay, that will use the amped tone as the oscillator :) should be cool? will soon find out :?:

WoJ - hehe :D do you mean you are getting usable tracking plugging direct to the soundcard, that would be cool to hear?
Glad you like it.

Peace

Well, depends on how fast and clean I play. I tried some tapping to see if I could make it sound like a trance arp. (which is quite fun) but its just not quick enough. For adding 'life' into synth parts its great, keyboards arnt expressive enough for me. With a guitar I can now do pitch bends galore much more easily. :)

:D Yah! I would think that when tapping! the noise would crap out the pitch tracking :( but all is not lost there! like I said before I am working on a synth setup to add to FreeAmpSE that will use the amp-sim guitar tone for the oscillator :)
And IMHO how clean you play the synths seems to be the key to making the tracking of my synths work! even if you leave too much pick noise in, the pitch tracking will try to read it :( the pitch tracking really needs some work
Keyboards are great for music, but yes I agree with you that they do lack expression and control compared to a acoustic instrument, just my opinion though (please no FLAMES) but that is the reason I am making the audio triggered synths :D

Peace, on this holiday

Totally agree with you there Joe!

One somehow needs to directly connect with the note in order to get the most expression and there are no controllers that really offer this for the Virutal Instrument domain. Maybe the Continuum Fingerboard Controller comes close enough offering both expressivity and accuracy over playing notes. The guitar is one of the more ideal instruments, just watch the same instrument in different peoples hands, it is completely transformed. Can you do this with a keyboard? I don't think so :(

If you can really nail the tracking side, you will be aiding us folks in search of better expression in our electronic music.

Did you think of writing some code to actually track the sound of the pick attack? I'm sure there would be some note/string information that could be extracted just anaylising the sound of the pick hitting a string. The thicker the string, the more 'clumpy' it sounds, the further up the neck you fret, the 'duller/more thuddy' the pick noise sounds. Is there anything in that? (sorry for my extremely none technical explanations!)

Gonna post this in the other thread too.
