The upcoming SE will feature a new datatype DT_BLOB, which will make inter-modular connections easier for FFT/covolution modules. But you can do these already using the SDK, if you have the coding skills for that.
Good to know, scoofy...but I have no coding skills. In fact, I have not even tried to use SE yet, but for what I would want to do I know I would want convolution for the cab sim part...the rest would be mostly distortion and compression and I see plenty of online SE resources for those. I actually have what I want strung together in eXT using a ton of freeware, but I'd like to try to come up with my own freestanding amp sim using what I've learned about the interaction between distortion and compression and the resulting amp "feel". A good convolution module would make it possible for others to come up with higher quality amp sims too, which I'm all for :) ! There is a GNU convolution engine called BruteFIR, from what I gather it is for Linux, though. Would there be any way to make an SE module from that?

Well, if it has GNU license, it means your software should be open source too. But SE is not open source, so I don't think making a module using it is legally possible.

why? it's not possible if the module is provided as free and explicitely
not for commercial use ? not especially about this code
but for some other project like, FLAC, LAME etc

I'm not an expert at licenses, but as I know GPL license means you must release your program as open source, not just 'free'. If you want to link an open source program to your closed source program, you'll need the Lesser General Public License (LGPL), which allows that. Since SynthEdit is closed source, I don't think that's legally possible.

ok, i understand, i suppose each case depending of license type and GPL
seem do not permit this kind of devlpmnt. :(

My understanding is GPL restricts *distribution*. You can use GNU code however you want privately, even combine with non-GPL code.
However you can't distribute GPL licenced modules without providing source code, and you can't distribute then as part of a larger non-GPL project becuase the 'viral' nature of GPL requires all-or-nothing GPL code.

I'm no big expert of course.

Hello to all, for those who are looking for some good looking control elements in their SE creations, I share on my new site a fresh made skin - M DEF v.1.1 for free, however, as a donationware. Hope you'll like it, enjoy!
