I did OK with logic, too.. I think what was decent about logic was that you could actually quickly start doing basic stuff.. there was all of this huge complexity there, but you didnt HAVE to deal with it to start doing basic things.. anyway...

True, and as a result EXT2 could be big. Very big especially at it's current price point, and I think it will be free for existing users as well. I think Frits will very likely be taking notes from this thread though. He has actually made many changes to Podium based on user requests so far. So I would not be surprised to see a further simplification of certain aspects of Podium surface at some point in future.original flipper wrote:
But ... Saying that; are we not seing a major overhaul in the forthcoming XTV2 as a result (in part) of user feedback on the obscure way in which the program works?
Tastes can and will always differ based on just about anything, so the answer to that question probably deserves it's own threadI believe that the 'too complicated' idea is not always valid - I have tried Podium several times and faltered ... got nowhere, I tried Logic once and made music; now a lot of people say Logic is a complete 'mystery', so why would I find one works for me yet another doesn't?
Totally agree with that. I think more and more developers are looking at improving how their product is used as well as adding useful features. Possibly in that order but not always. I think Frits is interested in hearing suggestions. He has thrown open a fair few features for discussion on the Zynewave forum before implementing. I think there is always room for more suggestions. Frits welcomes them.I think that 'interfaces' should 'evolve' into transparent work spaces - I further believe that developers should strive to make things as obvious and simple as can be, with the complexity out of sight - for those who want to delve deeper.
Would be nice yes.I have always wondered why you can't (in many host programs) click on a midi track and get a menu item come up that asks if you want to load a VSTI (onto/into that track)? - think about it; isn't that the most obvious thing imaginable?

OK, late to the party, but I'm another long standing user of Podium.
I came from a background of real tape audio, then using Pro24, then Notator, Cubase, Cakewalk, bit of PT.. I've kinda done the rounds.
Podium offers a huge amount for a newcomer on the scene (even tho' the devt has been going on for nigh on 15 years).
Most of the points raised seem to have been addressed, but I just wanted callin with my Podestrian calling card

I wouldn't worry about the routing... i guess maybe if you are used to cubase etc. then you have to unlearn old habits, but once you get the hang of it it's very powerful and you can be pretty smart with the routing... sidechain compression is also a doddle to setup in podium as well

some plugins for instance otium fx compadre, will automatically create subfolders in podium for the 2 stereo input channels (the first of which you completely turn down the gain for) and another for the output, you chain the bass directly under one, and the drums directly under another, or otherwise on plugins that don't you do this: http://www.zynewave.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=234
once you got the hang of it, it takes just a few clicks.

Hey fellas!
I must say that i've seen the Podium Video tutorial and was like WOW, amazing and all but one thing I know s that lately i got to ableton Live and man, this peace of software, i love its approach and the best workflow ever, the way the sidechain of Fx works and understands it right away and the way to manipulate automation and the way it rwads all Parameters of each Vsti.. its just sick.. Of course there is still some Midi stuff missing but i know Ableton wasnt made for Midi but they are getting there.. Wish Nuendo or Samplitude or Saw would have the Look and Workflow of Ableton and the rest would be magical... I can not wait to get to try Podium and see but it will be only for a trial because for sure im staying with Nuendo baby... peace

i am on the podium.
and i actually find the VST plugin implementation quite easy, and very powerful. Also, if you use hardware along with your software, definitely check it out and spend some quality time with the demo.
It does take some time for some people to wrap their heads around it, simply because it is more different from some hosts than others, so it depends on what you are used to. But (and i know i am repeating others sentiments) it won't take long for it to 'click' with you, and once it does i think most find it very nice to work with.
i know i do.
