hmmm,

I totally agree with Stale Bread - we need a "super slicer". As I see it, a mix between Ableton Live's "warp" mode and Recycle would be perfect. Ideally as a VSTi that syncs to host and has good import/export functions.

Imagine chopping a loop into 16 slices and making a "beat" out of it 15% slower than its original bpm. If you do this with recycle or any other slicer you need to fill the empty spaces with "air" to make the loop sound natural. This is what Abletons warp mode do a great job with, however, YOU CANT REARRANGE the slices with this warp mode. If you could get the "chops" of Abletons virtual (?) slices assigned to a midi keyboard with 1 slice per key (or a setting one prefer) us samplists would have a great tool for composing music. Beeing able to do this without the hassle of slicing - composing - timestretching - composing - maybe some more slicing - composing - possibly more timestretching - composing... You get the picture.

Basically Ableton's warp mode with midiassigned slices that's non destructive. Beeing able to move them just like in Ableton Live but at the same time playing around with the "slices" on pads or a midi keyboard, all realtime. That would be fantastic.

And it really should be a VSTi plugin because if its a standalone little app that cant work within an host the workflow is gonna get messed up either way.

My 2 cents.

sooo is this new fruity beta /edison doin the damn thang or what,, who's using it whos liking it's slicing sampling abilities who if any is not satisfied with it?... i'm only talking about the edison.

I've demo'ed Edison. It's a very good audio editing utility, but it isn't designed to be an instrument really. I really like the jog wheel function, except it can't be automated or controlled with MIDI.

lookout here comes liveslice

well Ableton didn't hear my screams or dreams for this release of live 6, but they did elude to some new form of slicer possibly in the future....
f**k the future.

I dont think it's the best techniqe for chopping slicing but I use create cue markers in AdobeAudition then open the wav file in FLslicer.. It works great BUT the draw back is that you cannot edit individual slices in FLSlicer SUCKS. My work around for this is to import the slices into Vsampler then you can edit copy 'slices'/zones to my hearts content!.. As I have said before it's not that the apps arent out there for slicing the problem is cross comptibility of file types.. If I mark my slices in AA then open the WAV file into Recycle then I have to RE slice/detect the slices. THIS MAKES BEING A SAMPLIST TEADIOUS!

Guys,
Battery 3 is coming out (scheduled in oct '06)!
It looks like they slowly move some 'intakt'- features in the bastard..
hopefully it will ease our pain ;).

Post

ha, here's to easin our pain :tu:

Post

Doesn't look like Battery 3 has an auto-slicer though.

Post

yeah looks like slice import only wtf... i'm going to console myself with Guru and Liveslice and pray that Ableton got the message, at least they say they did

Post

Seen Battery 3 yet???

Built in waveform editor and user-definable timestretch. We're get'n closer.

edit: duh guess I shoulda read the posts above me first...

anyway I don't care for autoslice. For me its like whats the point if I gotta go back and adjust all the slices one by one anyway. I much prefer a built in pseudo-destructive waveform editor like battery 3. And stretch is what I've been waiting to see in a drum sampler, the only other one I know is Ableton's Impulse.

BASEMENT ARTS' REFLEX VSTI!!! I LOVE IT!!!

Post

I have this reflex vsti, but couldn't really get my head around it.
Care to tell me where I can find some faq or help file or something?

And I do agree that live needs a good slicer, that's what live work is all about for me
