If you think about it Reason and eXT both have floating/docked sequencers, both have a virtual rack, patch cords allow any effect chain, both can combine many synths in to a single patch..ect. If you were to buy enough VSTs to have a Reason-like rack in eXT it would no doubt cost more but you could do it and if you used free or near-free stuff well... even more good for youSynthbuilder wrote:

I loved Reason because this too was so easy to do what I wanted. I just didn't really like its sound quality.
The real differences are in the nuts and bolts. Your choice of VST instruments and effects, a pro-sequencer, internal sampler, audio recording, all sorts of midi effects and generators are out there and I now believe excellent mastering in eXT is possible.
T2's days may be numbered after all. It's a damn shame I never did a single thing with it. I'd fight with it for a while and then just go back to Cubase.
I guess my point is.. if I actually have one and ain't just bein' a fan boy, is that anyone that has never gotten along with PC midi timing (like me) and likes the Reason concept but not Reason because of the limits (like me), should be doing backflips over eXT... like me
. I can see where it's lot to take in all at once and hard to get because it's so open. It's a empty studio with unlimited options just waiting for you to drag in all your favorite stuff not a simplified canned version with limited options to make it easy on you. I think you'll get there sooner or later because it's worth it. It is in a class of it's own. It's like a lot of other things but there is nothing else like it.

I'm just excited because I finally found something that does not get in my way, works like I think and actually helps me make more and better music. One of these days just pm me and tell me you got it.

There's always Fish (http://www.the-company.com/) but I don't know if Mr Dick hosts VSTs and more to the point, where one should put them

Oh and Ardour is predominately Linux (it can be used on Mac, too).

ttoz: you're right, it's strictly audio recording, though I believe midi support is planned. At the moment I think people are using mainly Rosegarden and MusE for midi under Linux.
I don't use midi, but I use Rosegarden purely because I've got the version with DSSI support (DSSI being the Linux version of VSTi) and there's an app called DSSI-VST that allows use of VSTs under Linux.

I'm running now MusE with Hydrogen and Alsa Modular Synth. I like MusE, makes me feel 10 years younger

Using: Cubase Pro 15, Bitwig 5, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.
