Actually, the MPL-1 is so competetively priced that they might as well put some presets in for the consumer/prosumer crowd, wouldn't hurt. The pros can just ignore them.

Looks like this could be very helpful, yes!

Thanks Torben - it's helpful to know thatTorben wrote: Regarding presets it would be possible to make more of those on the pro edition as it got more options.

not to highjack the thread but why would you want to compare this to Finis? Have you tried pushing that thing? No contest

Again that depends. Because if you are after a fast way of increasing loudness and don't need to tweek it too much the Standard Edition might be what you are looking for; turn down the threshold untill you got the loudness you want. Adjust release to taste.headquest wrote:Thanks Torben - it's helpful to know thatTorben wrote: Regarding presets it would be possible to make more of those on the pro edition as it got more options.

Well, they are both limiters, right? I own Finis and have had good results. I run a Mac, so I can't try MPL-1 yet. Hence my request for a comparison. Doesn't really sound that far-fetched to me, but whatever.orangesuite wrote:not to highjack the thread but why would you want to compare this to Finis? Have you tried pushing that thing? No contest

What "orange" is saying here, is that MPL-1 is much better.polyslax wrote:Well, they are both limiters, right? I own Finis and have had good results. I run a Mac, so I can't try MPL-1 yet. I just downloaded Finis and I hate to make such a rush decision but from my first impression I tend to agree with him.
I also compared MPL-1 to every other limiter I have, I won't name them here but let's just say they cost much more then MPL-1
and so far MPL-1 clearly beats them by 3-6dB before acceptable distortion. (I like them clean)
But that's not the whole story, what I really like about MPL-1 is that it stays clean on trouble spots where others fail.
As a guitar player I always had a problem on solos where..... well I am not sure how to explain it but I am sure every guitar player will know, it's when you play for example an E note on the first string and at the same time you pull the second string from D to E.
It's this "screaming double E", at the stage of the pull when the two E's are close but not exactly at the same pitch, is where all limiters start to crackle but not MPL-1.
It's a winner, give it a try.

"when the two E's are close but not exactly at the same pitch, is where all limiters start to crackle "
That's likely to cause a lot of powerful sub bass, as the beat difference between the notes might be something like 5Hz. A high pass filter might help before the limiter.

Yeah, I understood that. I was hoping for something just a little more detailed.AndrewSimon wrote:What "orange" is saying here, is that MPL-1 is much better.polyslax wrote:Well, they are both limiters, right? Well it's a limiter so there is not much to say here except that you can push MPL-1 more before the sound starts to distort and/or pump.polyslax wrote:

It's a super clean limiter, it simply makes things louder, no color added.
I wonder what will be the next mastering plug in the precision series? if any. Torben?
The only thing that I don't like about MPL-1 is the latency so tracking with it is out of the question but that was expected and it's the nature of the beast.

I will try that.
Do you think high pass above 40Hz will do it?
I know some like to cut off everything below 100Hz but I like those low frequencies on the guitar sound.

OK I tried but it didn't help.Kiwburger wrote:"when the two E's are close but not exactly at the same pitch, is where all limiters start to crackle "

MPL-1 is the only one that totally eliminates this problem.
It almost sounds like there is a clipping buster in there.
I think Torben had a few tricks in there.
It reminds me of the click/pop/crackle eliminator in Cool Edit.
And with 11ms latency there is a lot could be going on in there.
I will do some tests.
I will record something and clip it on purpose.
Then I will see if MPL-1 will clean it up.
Torben?
Feel free to jump in here at any time.

OK I was wrong, there is no clipping buster in there.
That leaves us with only one conclution.
MPL-1 is simply a very good limiter.

We got a few ideas we are working on. We will coordinate these ideas with mastering engineers, so we are not just presenting products we think is great, but also products they find meaningful. So for now I can't say much besides that we will be back with some more goodiesAndrewSimon wrote:I wonder what will be the next mastering plug in the precision series? if any. Torben?
There is no clipping buster in there (as you already know by now). But beat frequencies are generally problematic to dynamic processors. Unfortunately, even though they might act like real sub frequencies they are not and can therefore not be filtered out. Only exception where the beat frequencies are becoming real frequency components are if they go though a un-linear device like a distortion pedal, overdriven amplifier etc. Then we can filter out the subs but we still got the un-filterable beat frequencies.AndrewSimon wrote:OK I tried but it didn't help.Kiwburger wrote:"when the two E's are close but not exactly at the same pitch, is where all limiters start to crackle "
