The video support might be the clincher for me... I've dug out my old Live Lite CD and the upgrade price is mightily tempting now..

The thing that disappoints me about this version is that many simple things they could have done to make Live more usable as a proper DAW were ignored in favor of a bunch of stuff that's already available in third party tools. I'd like to be able to use Live for everything too but working with complex pieces in the arrange view hurts and the automation handling *really* needed some work.

I would hope that they've gone at least some way towards making live more efficient with large projects i.e. the slow graphics when dragging & dropping etc. with large projects.
time will tell.
there are other improvements i'd have preferred to have seen myself - but at the end of the day i still prefer live.

multi-assignable macro controls
multi-track warp
hot swap
multi-processor/core threading
re-wire improvements

Seems like it's worth a 119 upgrade.

Now if they could have just added a way to one click render just a clip!!

It would be the perfect loop maker built right into the perfect loop player. Perhaps flatten will work this way?

i thought if u solo the clip then render u will just get that clip ?

yeah ... thats probably the crux of it actually ... the stuff i personally want from live are the bits my other tools (whichever one im focussing on at the time) dont have or cant currently do ... although even that might change sometime later this year ...

same for me... Live has become my main audio tool/host, so yeah, I can see how you might prefer an older version. The Live/Studio thing is not an entirely clear criteria though. Plenty of people use Live live and use vst instruments and effects. Features like the new ability to map multiple paramters to a single controller will be very valuable for live performers. There is new stuff that is very good for live use. It's just that there is stuff that has no live use too and maybe gets in the way.

Some users are complaining not enough attention was given to arrange. Others are saying they want more DJ features... and so on...

Seems to me a lot of people second-guessed what would/should beincluded in Live 6 and are now suprised to see that Ableton had their own ideas. But some of the new stuff, like the Racks, multiple mapping, deep freeze, etc - is going to lead to new creative possibilities and as such we all need time to play with it and THEN decide whether we like it or not.

What I really dislike, is: You have to pay extra for 'operator' and for 'sampler'(without sounds) and only get a small sound-set for 'simpler', when you buy the boxed version.
Look at FL-Studio XXL: What a bunch of instruments and effects included for 350€....

Actually the sound set you get with Simpler is very good imho (though its not bread and bitter stuff - but the Essential Instrument Collection looks set to rectify that and is included in the box).

Also of course you don't have to buy Operator or Sampler if you don't want to. I bought Operator but rarely use it (though I am glad I have it). I almost certainly won't buy Sampler as I'm happy with the sampler I already use (NN-XT). And if I was to buy a new sampler (at that price) I would want one that also works in Sonar (without Rewire), not just Live.

Yeah it would be great if both were included in the bundle, but they're not, and I agree they appear somewhat overpriced.

i find i hard to believe that such a useful, standard, in every other sampler feature was not implemented.

You can't record automation into session clips in Live, but you can record CC data. This means I can assign a midi controller to, say, a z3ta filter cutoff and record that into a session clip but I can't do the same thing with Simpler because the only way to map a controller to a parameter on the built-in plugins is to use Live's internal midi mapping, which is handled as automation.

Ok. I guess I only hand draw automation so I've never come across this issue. Is it the same for automation in the "Arranger" view?

Automation can *only* be recorded into the arrange view, so this works ok.
