So presumably you think it should also support AU plugs?

Many cross platform ones don't. Live doesn't have it. Heck, Sonar still doesn't directly load VST plugins IIRC.

It's not defensive, just the way you say it. It's been a problem before. Maybe it's just your choice of words, but it comes out as very crude. It's all cool though man.

Not every host has every feature. So that was my question, is that what was the point of that post? I wouldn't mind Tracktion having DX support. There are several things that I'm sure you wish you could have in Reaper.

I guess I should just read what you said as a surprise, and not an attack. Although you could have said it differently.

arent you special?

fact is, those arent the only ones. There are DX only plugins out there, and having to use a wrapper for em is pretty lame. even if its a "chainer" --

and, fact is, people may want to use those plugins, besides you. too bad if they are using tracktion! They have to go get a chainer type plugin and plug that in as well.

o well.

one more reason to not like tracktion... (for me)

(again, no offense to those that do, i am sure its a wonderful program)

Because it would break the cross platform ethic for little or no extra functionality.

<edit> that is the official reason given by Mackie btw ;)

another reason i dont like Sonar -- hopefully this will change in version 6. Then it may be worth checking out.

either way, i think yes, people are a bit to sensitive sometimes. I was a bit shocked about tracktion not having it, but i certainly wasnt trying to hurt people with my words or anything. Just that its my opinion that its lame :D

there is no reason not to support AU plugs. There is some argument that gets tossed out about not being fully cross platform compatible, but of course you can use tons of vst's that are PC or Mac only, so that argument is crap.

Jason, if you think using a wrapper is a bad workaround, then you must not understand how easy it is. You act like it's a showstopper. But it's not. People that want to use DX plugins in Tracktion can do so, VERY easily. And by the way, I know someone personally who uses the waveshell in Tracktion with no issues at all. Others might have problems, but not everyone does.

So you don't agree. Does that make you right or wrong? Oh, wait, neither. JUST your opinion. So why so harsh?

Is there any reason to support them? What do AU plugs do that VSTs don't?

Post

I don't think there even needs to be other formats besides VST. They are a pain in the rear to devs anyways from what I've heard. Why can't they just agree on a standard, the one that does more then any other, VST?

Really, I too would like to know just one thing, not ONE PLUG, but one thing, that they can do that VST can't do.

I don't mean to be defensive, but it's Tuesday night, when I work my one night a week at my second job, which is the one I hate. And I get my revenge here tonight!
