Can I use it with external syths and fx - like load the patchlists from my VL70m or Korg N364 and change them from Sonar's interface (like Cubase and Podium does)? And can I edit parameters in hardware too and use external effects?

SONAR 6 now has per-track and per-plug-in Read and Write Automation Enables.fandango wrote:It's funny, but I'm really pleased that there's buttons to increment/decrement the current preset. It's something I liked in EnergyXT and it's useful to have it here as well. Previously in Sonar you had to open the dropdown and select the next preset manually.
I wonder what the [READ][WRITE] buttons are for. I'm assuming [READ] is to toggle playback of parameter automation and [WRITE] records automation, but I'm not entirely sure.

Wavelab, too, just as an FYI. And now, SONAR (apparently).Majken wrote:Whyterabbyt: Soundforge actually has a plugin menu customizer. Both lets you sort a list of favourite plugins and place them in a menu tree for stuff like dynamics, reverb and so on. Very handy!
And thanks for the info, Alex Westner. Ordered the upgrade last night, awaiting anxiously.

I'll probably upgrade at some point, but some of these features look like bug fixes or design flaws that should not have been in a $500 product to start with. There does not seem to be a lot more than workflow features in the update and relatively few things that will really affect how I make my music.
There is enough there to probably make upgrading worth it, but I am not really excited.

Sadly, no, we weren't able to get to that feature. But it is certainly on our radar for a future update.aMUSEd wrote:Can I use it with external syths and fx - like load the patchlists from my VL70m or Korg N364 and change them from Sonar's interface (like Cubase and Podium does)? Alex, how about proper side-chaining of (capable) VST's? That, and the audio-snap feature were the two things I was most looking for in the update, and at least the latter showed. I'll probably upgrade, but side-chaining would make the choice a no-brainer.

Ya, AudioSnap is quite a deep collection of features - we'll be posting a video about it soon.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote:Alex, how about proper side-chaining of (capable) VST's? Sorry, no side-chaining this time, but it is certainly on the front-burner.

Audio Snap stretches only so far, I'm afraid...Bill OC wrote:Thanks for the input, Alex. It's looking great.
You wouldn't have a link to a time-travel plug-in so we could use it now, would you?![]()

Alex, do you find that the Analyst's ability to make automation envelopes from waveforms allows for some sidechain-like functionality (ducking, paramater-control, etc.)? It sounds like a killer feature; I was surprised it wasn't hyped more.

well, it was honestly a big irritation, now with this out of the way, i think you will find at least SOME more people jumping on the the sonar ship!!!! (for this reason alone i mean... there are plenty of other reasons that sonar is a great productAlex Westner wrote:Jason Brian Merrill wrote:Yup, we got it right this time, thanks.runagate wrote:but how i remember the yells and screams of the sonar fanbois -- "NO BUT IT IS INTEGRATED"!!!!runagate wrote:Well, it's about goddamn time.

I realize why they didn't before but that was really hurting them.

hehe when sonar 5 came out thats what they said -- fully integrated vst support... didnt happen. something tells me they got it right with the new version and that is nicemight just be a worthy host now!!!

technically i think muzys also has a similar setup (albeit more cumbersome to configure) and i know that cantabile 1.2 has plans for such.whyterabbyt wrote:Interesting, ta. Its a useful feature, so Ive always been surprised that I'd never seen anything which used it. Always found it odd that so many people complained about not being able to organise them in Sonar when nothing else seem to either, and it could actually be done (externally) for Sonar way back in V1.Majken wrote:Whyterabbyt: Soundforge actually has a plugin menu customizer. i think it's a shame it doesn't go even deeper than that. folders full of shortcuts, which point to central repository of .dlls
that would be useful -- especially for us host-hookers

That's a good idea, and multiple hosts could honor that scheme. As far as Sonar is concerned, assuming Cake's changes don't go as far as we'd like you can always define Track Templates (even multiple for one plug) and organize however you want. More or less the same difference.grymmjack wrote:i think it's a shame it doesn't go even deeper than that. folders full of shortcuts, which point to central repository of .dlls
