+1... guitars with no mids just sound so "dated".
even if its just a slight boost it makes all the difference in tone...matter of fact (imo), the only recording i've heard where the guitars have no mids and thought "wow! thats a good sound" was metallica's ...and justice for all.

Yes...

Ok...

Meanwhile, I hated the guitar tone on "...and justice" and still do. It gets more and more wimpy and dated with each passing year.

Meanwhile, even though I can't say I'm a HUGE fan, Angus/Malcolm from AC/DC continue to have huge tone!

Yep. It's hard to beat that late 60's/early 70's cranked Marshall tone! (Typed while looking at an early 70's 50 Watt head that I'll never sell 8) )

Huge tone, not meaning, "enormous gain". The gain is pretty low, but the tone is ballsy and awesome. :D Mock me... but you know it's true. ;)

The Melvins know tone.

True ! :love:

But "huge" ? :lol: :wink:

What other definition of "huge" IS there? That tone fills up a stadium and kicks you in the nuts. That's not huge??? Most high-gain distortion is tiny by comparison. ;) BB King... SRV... all "huge"!

Kerry King... perhaps huge... the rest of most modern metal? Teeny tiny.

whats most sad is that angus prolly wont be with us much longer... :scared:

MESHUGGAH=huge

Post

Heh, I'll give you Meshuggah. Huge! As long as it's understood that "huge" doesn't always have to mean high-gain. It's gotta be thick and full of mids! Meshuggah also = well-engineered and layered.

Why is that? He is building a huge new house in the Netherlands, where he lives happily as far as I know.

His house is on the pic.
