yeah yeah, everywhere one turns , there is a forum war goin on.
How original.
Who cares, just get over it and dont be so pretentious to assume that anyone cares about your personal xxxx.
Now then,I for one am gonna get this little machine, i love the Waldorf sound, and already have a microwave 2, and always loved the micro q as well.
Dont care if it is hardware or not, i love the sound, and the price is good anyway, 400Euros will hardly break the bank in any event.
I think its good they finally got back to the bizzninzz, and will support waldorf in the future, as long as they dont go overboard again with ridiculus products like 5.000Euro synths with analog filter banks etc etc.
Anyone know it this will actualy read Microwave programs as well as micro q programs? If so, i might sell my original microwave....

I mean, Ive got to admit, being sat at home trying to defrost my freezer must have been one hell of a provocation to you, but you know, i was obviously just looking for an argument. im glad you're psychic enough to have picked up on that, otherwise all of my efforts would have been in vain.

I have the Blofeld, as well as a Q (not Micro q) and 30 voice Microwave XT.
Plus: The Blofeld has a great selection of wavetables and modulation options, and is built like a tank.
Minus: It has a very low output level and the effects are the exact same quality as the Micro q (I used to own two of them).
The Q and XT are simply in a different class sonically......... hence the bigger price tag. The Q keyboard is really worth the extra $.......... One of the finest synthesizers ever built!

Just wanted to add a couple more comments on the Blofeld.........
I'm not sure why Waldorf stuck with the micro q fx on the Blofeld. Yes, they are more flexible in multimode, but that is pointless if the quality is poor (especially the reverb). There is only one option for me........... run it in mono-timbral mode and process the excellent synth engine externally through it's single output. Maybe there will be a future FX update. Anyways, I don't want to be an asshole and put down Waldorf's new synth, it's very cool in many ways. I still think the Q keyboard is the beast to have........... much more dsp power in the synth engine and a far richer sound.
Peace to the world and I need to get out more.

Cool - just saw this thread. I've been coming to kvr a bit less these days, since I've really been moving towards a totally hardware setup. But I'm a Waldorf fan boy from way back, and I just got my hands on a Blofeld.
Negative stuff first: What's with the output level. I mean - it's just SO low.I hope that it's correctable in software (?).
I had some major problems in my first couple of hours with it - I figured that since I wanted to try out the sounddiver adaptation, I'd use the usb port for midi, since that's the only way to get bidirectional communication. Well, the Blofeld rebooted itself several times (with a loud pop), the knob response while receiving midi was abysmal - I was about ready to return it, when I decided to try the actual midi port. This proved to be an absolute night and day difference - no problems since.
I do have a vague recollection of one of the Waldorf guys, I think Wolfram, mentioning that there were apparently some issues with 1.01 that he would look into ASAP.
What threw me at first was the sound. There is the trademark Waldorf SOUND. It's been there in every synth of their's since the beginning - I guess I've tried pretty much every one but the Wave (god would I love to have one of those). To me, the sound has changed significantly - I'm not even sure how to describe it - and since I don't have another Waldorf instrument right now to compare it to, I'll admit that maybe it's an illusion. I just sold my Q desktop, because I just bought a beautiful ruby red Q+ for a great price, which should be arriving in about a week or so. I can see then whether I'm hallucinating.
I think that this sounds way better than the micro q. I never liked the micro q - again - I didn't have this at the same time as the q, but I always thought it sounded cheap in comparison. I forget what shortcuts they took, but I'm pretty sure that it can be verified that there are sonic differences between the micro q and the q...
The multimode seems poorly implemented. There isn't a way yet (apparently) to save a multimode setup. You just switch to multimode, and the 16 parts receive on channels 1-16. I hope that they flesh this out a bit.
After I got used to it a bit, I started to get quite fond of it (I've just had it for a couple of days now). Obviously this is a budget synth, there are not lots of knobs, and so there is certainly going to be some menu diving. What saves it is that (imo) finding parameters is very logical, and the display is really good.
I've taken to the sound. It IS different....I almost want to say that it's in the direction of the Virus - a bit smoother and sweeter. I don't know if that, in itself, is good or bad. But it's a typical Waldorf instrument in that you can really take it out there if you want to, and it seems to modulate better, and be designed to modulate more extremely than the Virus, which I've tried to like on several occasions.
I thought that maybe I was crazy for ordering this, when I had a Q+ coming. But ultimately, my curiosity about the new Waldorf won out. I'm really liking this synth - but the output level is quite annoying.

ok, i've done a bit of programming on a DX7, DX7II, and on my old DX100...for some reason i always had better results when programming from the actual hardware than the software programmer available ...there is something about having to focus on one aspect of the sound at a time that made me think more clear and listen more closely...that's why i like modular analog, you have to think "i'm going to do this, then this, etc, to achieve that"...sometimes when i see these VSTs with every parameter right in front of me, i frankly don't know what to do...it's very much a mental thing, and one could get around it, but one chooses not to...whyterabbyt wrote: You ever programmed a DX7? True. I must admit I've hated my DX100 ever since I bought it years ago. I hated every other Yamaha DX I ever had the misfortune to use, but you're right. You go into edit mode on one of those synths with a really focused idea of a particular sound you want, or a tweak of a patch that you want. If not, you do it at your own peril. It's rare I ever get a random happy patch by just messing around with a DX - mostly if I do random tweaking, I just get complete silence out of itthere is something about having to focus on one aspect of the sound at a time that made me think more clear and listen more closely
And although I hate the DXs with a passion, I still have my little 100 and still won't part with it, because it still makes some excellent sounds if I use it well, and that type of FM sound is also perfect for most mixes - big analogues and some scratchy and bright digital synths don't sit well with anything, although they may sound fantastic in isolation. The DX range were truly bread and butter synths for anyone with the time to learn the internal vagaries. You almost can't be offended by a DX (although you can happily throw them at the wall sometimes...).
I wouldn't suggest DXs for anyone starting out patching synths, but for anyone who has done the basics and wants to move on they are the best to learn about synthesis and patching. You have to listen to what every envelope does to appreciate it, you have to identify each and every parameter before you move on to the next. You almost have to do it in a logical manner or you end up with sonic mayhem.
It's bloody frustrating too though...

I am back.
Droolmaster are you the same droolmaster from harmonycentral?
The thing you say about mutlimode is very important. I have the same problem. I have to route the Blofled through Ableton Live to layer sounds. That is ridiculous. But other than than this thing is excellent. I have the bug with the category filter but I found out today that they released an update which fixes this along with the output level of some presets. GO Waldorf Go.
The menus are excellent and even though I ordered a BCR2000 as well with 32 extra knob , I do not need them because using blofled is dead easy. The sound is amazing. It kicks FM8 and Zebra2 ass in bottom and high end (but you have to really listen carefully to hear the diffirence) but most important I know now what people mean when talking about a more "full sound".
I am simply amazed. However I am not excited about the presets , Zebra2 kicks blofled ass in that area.
But with 1000 user editable presets ,and such a powerful synth egine who cares??
Hey by the way di you try the modificators
straight from the manual of blofled
"Modifiers allow you to apply mathematical functions on
modulation signals. Depending on the function type
selected, calculation will affect two source signals or a
source signal and a constant parameter."
This reminds me the core modules of REAKTOR.
I did not epxect such a low level modulation power from such a small synth. Extremely powerful. This perfect for soundscapes or the most complex sounds. I do not know where to start.
