I agree with that. If I didn't have more synths than I know what to do with I'd grab it in a second because it really does have a very interesting sound.musikmachine wrote:It's a gnarly sounding synth,it could blow my speaker with the noise oscillator and resonance alone.Guess it depends what you want,if your looking for a synth with an edge this has got it.I think for stuff like industrial, breaks, dnb, electro and techno this synth is ideal.I like it's quirks and i think it will give it a wider appeal.
I do agree with hadees though, I'd prefer a well labeled GUI. But I understand what they are trying to do. And if it was labeled as per normal, the wouldn't be much point in a white tie option, because you would know what everything does.

Hi,
Olga v1.00.03 is now available http://www.stillwellaudio.com/?page_id=37 . This update should fix some state save problems in various hosts.
If you have any patches or projects saved in Olga prior to v1.00.03, please read this http://www.stillwellaudio.com/forums/vi ... ?f=35&t=79 on how to update safely. I'm sorry for the hassle, it's a one-time thing. Patches and projects saved in v1.00.03 will load in any later version.
(By the way, Olga licenses will remain valid for all updates through 2.00.00. If you put the new Olga in the same place the old one was, you don't have to do anything else for Olga to remain licensed.)
Thanks!

After a couple of days i pretty much know my way around the interface.I quickly switch to english when i don't know a control but i switch it back to the russian the rest of the time..morelia wrote:I agree with that. I'll be editing sounds and then realise i'm referring to the russian symbols without thinking about it.It's so well laid out amd the manual fills in the gaps.I wouldn't say the gui has hindered me at all,in fact i prefer it!

What's the method your using to update FXPs saved in the old version? Perhaps a small utility or a another we can do it ourselves would be better than everyone sending things to you.schwa wrote:If you have any patches or projects saved in Olga prior to v1.00.03, please read this http://www.stillwellaudio.com/forums/vi ... ?f=35&t=79 on how to update safely.

Olga's only been out 48 hours so I doubt there's much that needs converting, and I'm happy to do it to save people the trouble.Dozius wrote:What's the method your using to update FXPs saved in the old version? If you do want to convert them at home you can use a small utility called Reaper
Or, just post the FXPs here http://www.stillwellaudio.com/forums/vi ... ?f=35&t=78 and I'll fix em.

OK, when I saw the UI I thought to myself, "Could it actually sound like it looks?"
Yes. It sure does. I love it. I can practically smell the cigarette and old coffee breath residue on it. Bravo. It's angry with me, but it realizes that pain is life and the winter will be hard.
And wheat... fields of wheat... enormous amounts of wheat...
My only critique is the opacity of the "tape" in the english is a little low. It really is still a bit hard to get.
I'm low on money at the moment, but it's on my list for sure. I'm not sure I understand the pricing though. Since I don't sell my music can't I buy a non commercial license? I don't use Reaper and I don't plan on it.

Apart from the GUI being fabulously grimy, I like the character of this synth. Loads of guts and personality. Definitely on the BUY list.

the more i play with it, the more i love the sound!
something i would really like:
better parameter smoothing for the output volume to get rid of zipper noise when using an expression pedal!
also, sometimes (even in otherwise mellow sounds) the filter resonance can get out of control and make olga scream in dangerous ways.
and please consider implementing after touch as a mod source, poly AT would be best.
fab

I'll have to try the demo, the demo songs are too layered and processed to be able to tell how the actual synth sounds.
If it's "just another VA" with overdone distortion and LFO-controlled oscillator drift, I'll leave it. It really needs to have something speciel that sets it apart from the other 549 virtual analogue synths in my plugins folder
A bit confused by the licensing.. I use Cubase SX3, but I don't do any commercial stuff. I suppose I could Rewire Reaper into Cubase, but that seems like too much trouble for a single synth.

It seems that i was the only one who didn't liked Olga synth (I had a girlfriend with that name too..
)
This synth has a lot of distortion IMO. I could say that its sound is based on distortion! Yes i tried presets with lower "drive" settings but there still was much distortion. Its filter is very basic and sounds "softwarish" IMO.
I must admit that i loved its design (I'm an eye candy fan)
The price is veeery good too!

The more I mess with Olga, the more fun she becomes. After hitting the white tie and reading the manual, the layout of this synth is remarkably ergonomic. My only complaint would be the fact that the patch bank is not complete and some of the presets are unusable.
One last thing, why does it seem like I've seen this synth before? Was it out or in public beta earlier under a different name?

-Fun synth if you like distortion. Turn it down and it sounds like most VA's.
-Semi analogue sounding osc's. If you play two C's, one octave from each other with a single oscillator, they sort of lock in phase with each other, only some very minor, cyclic drift here.
-Not too crazy about the russian - Randomly dabbing at knobs and buttons without a clue what they're doing isn't my idea of being creative. It's like trying to paint a painting in a pitch black room, then turn on the lights and see what you got.
Found the english labels after some frustration but they're kind of hard to read. Fortunately, the synth layout is pretty simple and similar to most analogs, so you quickly learn what each knob does.
I like to compare synths to electric guitars, which IMO are some of the most expressive instruments, even if I don't like the sound of them at all. A guitarist knows the instrument in and out, and he knows exactly how to control it. A guitar solo may sound out of control to a listener, but the guitarist knows exactly what he's doing. A guitar that randomly changed tone or pitch in the middle of a solo would not be appreciated by any guitar players.
Will keep playing with this one to see if it grows on me. Unlike many demo versions, at least you don't have to cope with insanely loud bursts of white noise every 5 seconds. This means you get a fair chance to evaluate the synth before deciding.

Olga is a great synth very intuitive and unigue sound. Tho I'd love a VST effect version of Olga so I could run audio through and get that grimey Olga sound on other sounds and intruments........... Just a thought

Ok, I downloaded the "When the TV breaks" Reaper project and there is no extra processing at all on that. Only a few tracks with Olga and a drum mix.JimmiG wrote:I'll have to try the demo, the demo songs are too layered and processed to be able to tell how the actual synth sounds.
I guess the same goes for the rest of the tracks as well but can't say for shure without downloading them.
I'd say this is a very cool and honest way of showing of a product.
Also, Stillwells trial policy is one of the best available.
I'm not saying this makes it a must buy, but definitly a must check out
