Thank you very much for the review, EVE!
Yeah, the ending is a bit strange ... was on the run, someone following me ... :scared: :wink:

Patrick9 - Morocco Bound -> Chaotic and exotic. Going fast but kind of standing still (ie. I'm not getting a tune or sense of progression, more of a tone or mood). Technical note: incomplete filename.
Thanks EV, The mood is the hustle and bustle of the souk. Chaotic and sensual

I'll get the filename sorted.

shrikantprabhu - Whistling Meadows -> Not getting so much a sense of speed as a sense of depth (as in, the percussion sounds a bit like small depth charges). Sound feels a bit dense (as in, a solid mass). Technical note: file name error (it's June).
Thanks for reviewing and noting the technical error. It is 120 bpm and the idea was to create the feel of the speed through other means.The percussion was to become a blurred mass of speed contrasting the sharp whistling.(as it happens while photographing a moving vehicle where the surrounding becomes a blur and the vehicle becomes sharp in contrast.)

I will request scoops to correct the tech error.

Thanks.

Please don't refer me to the 'Music Theory' thread... eheh.

I thought wikipedia might help us with this month: the issue of speed.

Tempo

From fastest to slowest, the common tempo markings are:

* Prestissimo — extremely fast (200 - 208 bpm)
* Vivacissimamente — adverb of vivacissimo, "very quickly and lively"
* Vivacissimo — very fast and lively
* Presto — very fast (168 - 200 bpm)
* Allegrissimo — very fast
* Vivo — lively and fast
* Vivace — lively and fast (~140 bpm)
* Allegro — fast and bright or "march tempo" (120 - 168 bpm)
* Allegro moderato — moderately quick (112 - 124 bpm)
* Allegretto — moderately fast (but less so than allegro)
* Allegretto grazioso — moderately fast and with grace
* Moderato — moderately (108 - 120 bpm)
* Moderato con espressivo — moderately with expression
* Andantino — alternatively faster or slower than andante
* Andante — at a walking pace (76 - 108 bpm)
* Tranquillamente — adverb of tranquillo, "tranquilly"
* Tranquillo — tranquil
* Adagietto — rather slow (70 - 80 bpm)
* Adagio — slow and stately (literally, "at ease") (66 - 76 bpm)
* Grave — slow and solemn
* Larghetto — rather broadly (60 - 66 bpm)
* Largo — Very slow (40 - 60 bpm), like lento
* Lento — very slow (40 - 60 bpm)
* Largamente/Largo — "broadly", very slow (40 bpm and below)
* Larghissimo — very slow (20 bpm and below)

Hmmm, so IMHO, speed starts at about the Allegro markings (120-168 bpm) and above.

Clever backbeats and layering double time effects (such as fast symbol work) can give the feel of really fast rhythms that are below allegro.

For what it is worth... happy speeding.

Oh, and I suppose if you are high on meth while producing your tune, you can qualify for the champs ring. You might want to specify that you were actually under the influence of meth if your piece sounds like you were on heroine :P

Or, you could adjust your tempo settings up, or not.

May the KVR be with you. I love all you people.... truly.

@gag3

IIRC, next May will mark the 50th anniversary of the original recording of Giant Steps. Some of us can never get enough of new interpretations--reminders, as it were, of that beautiful session and his amazing contributions.

Thanks very much E.V. for your comments. I think you got it pretty much nailed :)

Now I really must get on and listen to the other entries :?

I didn't dare do so before I put mine up :-o
It wasn't me! (well, actually, it probably was) - apparently no longer an 'elderly', now a 'senior'! Is that promotion?

* Absurdissimo - Unintelligibly stupidly fast (360-400bpm)

Hi guys,

Murphy has been visiting me ! :help: Yes indeed, that 'Murphy's law' bloke (sic. "when things are bad, it'll get worse").
It started with my wife's health problem, then yesterday she's cut her leg with a broken porcelain cup... :roll: ...to the hospital again. :-o
Now, on top of my usual part in the house jobs, I do the rest too, while hopping through the house as a nurse... :hihi:

The worse was still to come : in a sudden outburst of oppressed "gnklfstr+*Ç$€&%" I'd made 4 songs of 1 minute and I could't decide wich to submid in the contest... :shock:

This was the 1-2-much 'drop' !
I started shearching in the house and hidden behind my own sofa I found Mr. Murphy !
The doctors just told me he'll get better, but it will take some time...

So from now on everything will calm down. :D :hihi:

As a mattar of fact I've selected a song (probably the wrong one :lol: ).

Cheers, back to the dishes,

NurseMax... .. . :P

This is a prime example of Scoops law in action.

Scoops law states that Murphy's law is generally optimistic :-o
I have a really fast computer, some good mics, vintage musical instruments, and lots of fancy software. Just need some talent

Scoops, my experience is : when Murphy attacks, I give him some space to move so I can observe the situation. I think a little bit and then I attack... :help:
Until now, no Murphy could beat me. The more I get irritated, the more I fight back. And I allways get better from it. :wink:

Poor Murphy, what a bad luck, knocking on the wrong door.

"God damn the bloody torpedos, full steam ahead", used to say uncle Humphrey. 8)

Hi, just want to check something
Submission Thread wrote:3 - Must be composed specifically for this contest
Does that rule out covers ? Or are new arrangements of covers OK ?

Traditionally, covers have been accepted, unless specifically dis-allowed in the rules for a particular month (which hasn't happened too often).

Thanks EV
