The slap bass is 1 gig of pure slap/pop only articulations. It has entirely new samples than the fingered bass. They complement each other well, if you need slapping. By the way, the scripting behind the slap library makes it very playable from a keyboard and easy to sequence. You don't need to know anything about slap bass in order to use it and get good results.

You can currently get both libraries for the combined total of $89.90, since both libraries are currently on discount for an introductory period (though the intro discount on CoreBass: Cherry is up on Wednesday). I'm giving customers of either product an addition $5 off. So if you buy one product first, I'll send you a coupon code that can be used on the other whenever you want.

How large will the picked version be?
Intel Core i7 8700K, 16gb, Windows 10 Pro, Focusrite Scarlet 6i6

I estimate the picked bass will be around 800-1000 MB large. That's due to having the 4 alternate downstroke and 4 upstroke samples. And there's intelligent round robin in the scripting to further insure the best cycling of samples. The upstrokes and downstrokes are also selected through scripting.

The thing that is attracting me to these bass libraries, second to the quality is the size. I love that my crappy computer can handle the 500mb fingered bass. I have some large bass libraries but they are too big for tracking. Still, this picked version, if it sounds like I expect, should load quickly and be fairly usable in tracking.

That sounds a winner to me. It really is rather a shocking thing that this can be done this well via a MIDI performance. Right up my alley.

Slap bass technique is something I've been studying for years. Basically what I did was to figure out some rules and tenancies in terms of which articulations to use and then scripted them. I'm really pleased with the way it turned out, and how easy it is to use.

Good work GregJazz! I'm a big fan of your Manytone Upright for Kontakt and only just now stumbled across your orangetree stuff. Ordered both Cherry basses right away and am anxiously awaiting the picked one - any chance of a discount of some kind when buying the third one, plus any ideas how long before it'll be released? :)

Yup, there'll be a discount for ordering the third one.

The picked bass is nearly ready. It'll be a little over 900 megs, and should be ready within the next three days. Pricing for the picked bass is the same as the slapped bass. Same two-week introductory discount, also.

If you want to switch between the two during a song, let's say for a "slappin' solo break," you would switch midi channels or will there be multis?

I was messing around with a tune yesterday that uses all three basses, and I just had them on separate MIDI channels, all loaded into one instance of Kontakt. It worked great!

I'll probably include multis when the bundle of all three basses is released.

Hi Greg.

It's still the 27th, but when I try to buy the Cherry bass the price says 49.95 instead of 39.95?

On the product page it says: "Note: the introductory 20% discount will last until the 27th of August."

I need to remove this text, since the introductory discount is over for CoreBass: Cherry. (there have already been several purchases since, so I can't extend the introductory discount, since that would be unfair to the people who have just bought it)

Ok, Greg, no problem. I guess I misunderstood the "last until" part.

Just need to get everything ready: the readme, text for the product page, and upload the product, and we're good to go! So hopefully that will all be done by tomorrow evening.

For now, here's a quick demo, played in through the keyboard:
