Even on Brad Blackwood's mastering forum, which are frequented by people who have access to the most amazing gear in the universe, they still talk about Voxengo and even some free plugins (mainly Spitfish as a de-esser).

Among TRUE professionals, price is never an issue.. be it ridiculously high or ridiculously low. The only thing that matters is if it will enhance your work in a matter that benefits your business in the end.

bManic totally agree - if sounds good then it is good regardless of price is my way of thinking also, i aint saying everyone gets ripped-off by spending x-amount of money of hardware or software. However when people buy hardware and software just because of the name then they are ripping themselves off if anything! *if they have not tried it first and tried the competition also* - thats their malfunction anyway so i leave em to it

Just my humble £0.20 pence on that matter

It's an isp related problem I think, some cache not refreshing or such like.

This compressor is going to fill a huge gap in the market, I think you will make a lot of money Andy!
I refuse to use anything with a dongle, so do a lot of other people, so after that there are not many compressors left, just the Stillwill ones what are pretty much just toys and the Sonlaksis one what is too expensive.

Cheers for processing my drums too!

I too am pleased to hear that it will be a serial number and will, as a dedicated compressor nut, support your efforts, which are obviously impressive. Keep up the good work Andy!

Cheers!

I really, strongly dislike dongles.

Well, mostly ILok dongles, I swear they mess with my system.

Am using Ilok & Syncrosoft (2 usb keys), my hosts are dongled , same for most of my vst & vsti plugins. besides a barely slower launch time (for 1st plugin), i never had any issues or crashes related to copy protection.

Actually i prefer dongles over c/r, Simply cause i just have to take the keys to work anywhere and be able to use the software i've paid for...format my computer, add memory, drives, without having to worry that some copy protection will ask me to re register and might get me having to buy the software again.

and to conclude, the biggest studios & enginneers are using dongled plugins (almost all protools plugs are ilok), if it was so unprofessional and troublesome think they'd have voiced this. i don't see why my computer would handle copy protection any different than big boys's ones.

But since this is going to be serial number only (not C/R), I think there shouldn't be any problem with registration. Or am I missing anything?
Peace, my friends. I'm not seeking arguments here. ;)

It's a big hassle to go into each and every plug-in to deal with their own form of copy protection. With iLok, you just install the driver and point the host to your folder of DLL's.

I don't think I have ever heard anyone say dongles are "unprofessional", but they are a pain.

Why would anyone actually want to deal with a dongle instead of a simple serial number?

Why would anyone actually want a little piece of plastic dictate whether or not their software will operate?

What happens when the software company goes out of business, or discontinues the product(s) and your piece of plastic doesn't work anymore?

I can't see why anyone would complain about a serial number.

Again, you have to think of it in terms of transporting your plug-ins to different studios. The majority of users don't have to worry about this but it's a big deal to the professional engineers that Andy might want endorsing his plug-ins.

Anyway, I'm not trying to say that you guys are wrong for preferring serial number copy protection, only that there is indeed a significant benefit to using iLok, too.

Are you saying that the actual plugin is on the Dongle?

If I wanted to transport my dongle based plugs to my buddies studio, I still have to load it up on his machine.
