Hello,

I have just downloaded the largo demo and would like to ask,
anyone has midimap or any solution to control it right from my waldorf xtk?
(I'm cubase 5 user)

Also: Largo will have the option to upload wavetables as blofeld or xtk ?

And last :-)

What is YOUR opinion about the sound and features of the synth comparing to Microwave XT(k) ?

Would be great to use 2 synth head by head.

It looks promising but I need more time to explore this.
(I have very limited time right now:-(

XTK is the best playable synth around and EVER. Hope new power from largo too as seems to be very similar and even more.

Ps: DocT is here :-) WOW. You are my second father :-)

(the part of this message was posted to other largo thread on KVR too, sorry if you felt duplicated)

Thanks,
Victor

:!: The commercial Largo "Minimal Electro soundset" from Holger Steinbrink is available in Waldorf'S webshop:

http://www.waldorfmusic-shop.de/epages/ ... D=12459504

http://www.waldorfmusic.de/en/news#160[/quote]
I tested the patches of Holger Steinbrink's Largo soundbank. Here are my impressions by category:

- Pads: Excellent, analog and digital patches

- Atmospheres: Excellent, like the pads

- Leads: Around half of the patches, mostly really good. Good mix of analog and digital (wavetable) patches. Some of the patches sound really FAT.

- Bass: Around the half is really good and the other half is average.

- Arps: Mostly excellent. Analog and digital patches

- FX: only few and average.

- Keys: Only few but good.

Overall this soundbank is very good and shows much of the possibilities of Largo. THe patches use almost all features like wavetables, ring mod, FM, bass boost, effects, unison, sub osc's etc.
The patches have that special Waldorf sound based on the wavetables and the filters so i would not compare them to any other synth, especially not to "pure analog" synths. It's that analog/digital hybrid sound that's special for Waldorf synths.

Combined with the factory sounds and my own free soundbanks we have a quite good collection of patches now IMHO. :D

I know that there are more Largo soundbanks on the way. I am looking forward to that.

Ingonator or anyone else for that matter...

I'm running the Largo demo here on my mac and I can't for the life of me get any of the .FXB banks to load. Nothing appears, no presets load, nada. It just seems to be the factory set that stays.

Any ideas or am I completely missing something. Would really love to check out Ingonator's banks.

Cheers,
Colin

Really strange. All fxb's work here on my Largo but i have the full version (had it before the demo was released).
So Largo itself is running fine but no fxb's could be loaded? Which DAW are you using? AFAIK Largo doesn't support all available DAWs.
I am using a PC so i don't know if it could be any kind of Mac compatibility problem. If you are using the AU version i guess fxb's will not work. I have no experience with the Mac. There should be a Mac VST version too AFIK.

UPDATE: I checked the files of the Largo soundset by Holger Steinbrink. The files for the AU version are different. I guess in AU you need only the single patches (.aupreset) or am i wrong?

In an old post from you i discovered that you use Logic 9 so maybe it's really an AU problem if you still use Logic 9. I made the fxb files on Ableton Live 8 and TobyBear MiniHost.
Colin Bennett wrote:Moved from Live 6/7/8 to Logic 9 and absolutely hating every bloody second. Why oh why did I sell Live 8 to buy Logic 9...
On the other hand if you used Logic for some time i guess you already know that fxb files will not work there. So i guess you tried them with another host, or not?

If nothing works a possibility would be to send an email to support@waldorfmusic.de or bugs@waldorfmusic.de

Yeah it seems to load the default patches as .aupreset or .fxp. I think the stumbling block is the fxb banks. I'll need to look into this further today. Would it be possible to request your own soundbanks as separate fxp presets?

I'm just drooling to get your brass synth patches loaded :)

Thanks for the reply,
Colin

I propose that someone here who uses a Mac should convert the files to the the AU format. I have no Mac so i have no chance for that.

Just installed MiniHost on my Windows XP Virtual Machine along with Largo, ASIO4ALL and the Syncrosoft license manager. Loaded the plug-in in MiniHost. Imported your fxb bank and used the MiniHost preset manager to export all of the sounds as individual fxp files. Lets see if this works...

But individual fxp files are still no aupreset files so good luck...

Nope doesn't look like it works. Going to need to work out how to get from fxp to aupreset. Argh!

Sorry, guess i couldn't help with that. Maybe other Largo users which use a Mac could help you.

Finally got to the bottom of this preset nonsense.

Ok. Logic 9 can only read Largo presets if they're saved as .aupreset files. Ingonator very kindly shared his own presets as the standard FXP (individual presets) and FXB (preset banks) format. Largo might sound brill but for some strange reason cannot read FXP or FXB banks in the AU version of the plug-in.

FXP and FXB are basically a standard preset format for VST plug-ins. I used to own Ableton Live. It could load both VST and AU plugs. I downloaded the current demo of Live 8.0.4 and launched one instance of Largo VST. Presto. It can load the FXP and FXB presets without a problem. Once you've loaded the presets or preset banks in the VST version of the plug-in Largo has the option to "Save All Programs up to this Program as Audio Unit Presets". This exported all of the presets as .aupreset to a folder of my choosing and now I can pop these into the normal Mac presets folder for use with the AU version of the plug-in.

Yippee :)

[EDIT] All of the .aupreset presets are available when launching the AU version of Largo in Live BUT only a handful are showing under Logic 9... grr! Looks like I've managed to export the sounds ok. Just not sure why Logic is being awkward

[EDIT] Got the .aupreset files working under Logic 9. It seems to be the filename length. Used a renamer to shorten the files by removing the spaces and all the presets now load great under Logic :)

Happy days :D

I just discovered a new soundbank for Largo. It contains only basses:
