I just tried the demo for a few hours. As a longtime Waldorf fan, I think it sounds quite nice--its got the edgy vibe and the unique filters Waldorf is known for. I can't for the life of me understand how a high profile synth like Largo could have such a dated preset handling system though. How hard could it be to allow the user to actually see the categories listed in the list of presets instead of only after you've selected a preset? I mean, they actually went as far as allowing the user to be able to sort by category, but didn't actually think of actually letting us SEE what the categories are in the preset list? Then there's the mouse handling on the knobs--who the hell uses actual rotation movements for the mouse anymore these days? I thought everyone had agreed long ago that mouse handling for virtual knobs should always be linear--X or Y movements? There is nothing more annoying than the f**king knob jumping to max or minimum accidentally. Sure, I can map the knobs to my MIDI controllers, but I don't do things like that when I'm just trying out a synth--I do that AFTER I decide I want the synth and are willing to invest some time mapping all the controls.
So, Waldorf, if you guys are reading this thread, I think Largo is very good, but fix those glaring problems!

I agree. You have to wonder if they are on drugs or something to make that preset handling THAT bad. What in the hell were you thinking? It almost makes me mad it was so stupid.

Largo seams to be great... for the people who actually got it working. I haven't got it working. Installed. Tried to activate the demo license, No dialog to enter the key into. Ok I've got a dongle, but this piece of crap doesn't seam to even recognise it.

This is how I did it:jobromedia wrote:Largo seams to be great... for the people who actually got it working. I haven't got it working. Installed. Tried to activate the demo license, No dialog to enter the key into. Ok I've got a dongle, but this piece of crap doesn't seam to even recognise it.
1) Disconnected my Syncrosoft key (I don't want the demo license on it)
2) Install Waldorf Largo
3) Open Syncrosoft LCC and go to Wizards / License Download using the standard munes
4) Enter your serial number there and wait until you're authorized (you need an internet connection for this step)
One thing I do love about this synth is its naturally bright tone and punchy attack.
The chorus sounds really awful though, something appears to be wrong with it.
Good luck

Hmm, last night I played with it, and as I expected, with these filters I cannot achieve that cranky prodigy sound. These were made to fill my digital dreams. But I've discovered that every parameter what has a visual feedback are "sluggish". Not just the graphic has the slow response, but the sound itself breaks for a bit. I hope it will be fixed in a further patch. This is really an issue when dealing with live sound designing.
As I see Waldorf really needs a forum board here on KVRaudio, as the demo increased the people's interest in Largo and their other products.

The archives are here: http://www.waldorf-forum.com/pipermail/user-forum/
I tried to publish news and/or bugs about Largo there. Especially in the June archives a lot is written about the copy protection.
UPDATE: I just sent this message to the Waldorf forum:
"Hello,
now that the Largo demo is out i experienced a lot of confusion about the factory patches in the KVR forum. Everyone thinks there are only 128 patches but i know that's wrong. There are about 238 patches as single preset files (fxp). It would be recommended to add bank files (fxb) with all patches to the next version of Largo or as an extra download. If it would be allowed i can publish 2 bank files with all 238 patches at KVR.
Ingo"

I donwloaded, installed and verified without any problems. The preset management system is poor I agree, but I always use my host for this purpose.
The UI is very pleasing to the eye, but ony just fits the height of my widescreen lappy.
I own Blofeld so I was eager to compare sounds. Largo does have that edgy 'Waldorf' sound for sure, and the presets are excellent and usable. As such, it is one off the best sounding VST instruments I have heard - I would describe I as a character sound. Against the Blofeld there is little difference, but that difference is, to me, perceptible. It seems to lie somewhere between sluggish envelopes (latecy?) and filters that just lack that extra bit of cream (If you've heard blofeld you will now what I mean). It seems to me that these are the same issues that dog the vast majority of VST instruments.
The similarities are such that I will stick with the Blofeld for now. I would definitely buy Largo if I did not have Blofeld. That character sound! This is another top-class effort by Waldorf and I eagerly look forward to any new products they have in ths area.
P.S. Will there be an editor for Blofeld? Any chance of squeezing audio down that USB?
Cheers,

edit: Almost forgot - no PPG filter!

The way the presets are organized is horrible. Think I'll stick to making my own.
The factory presets got no direction what-so-ever and felt like clicking a random button.
The best thing about this synth is definitely the filters.

You can switch between linear and circular knob moving in the common page of Largo.Lunatique wrote:Then there's the mouse handling on the knobs--who the hell uses actual rotation movements for the mouse anymore these days? Did you check your email for the serial? They will provide you with a serial to enter obviously...Not sure if you've overlooked that part, when you say no dialog?jobromedia wrote:Largo seams to be great... for the people who actually got it working. The Largo contains no factory fxb bank files but 246 single fxp patches in the vstplugins folder for Largo (at least in the full version which i own). The 128 patches factory bank in Largo is just a selection of them.
I made two banks from all 246 patches sorted by category but i am not sure if i could publish them here due to copyright. Any ideas ?? I also asked on the Waldorf forum. Waiting for a response there.

Ingonator, PM me them, please!
Also, I registered on that user forum thing but it's a mess.. I don't see why they couldn't use a normal BBcode forum or other.
At least I hope some of the Waldorf developers are reading this topic

I could send you the files but i also want to put them here on KVR database if possible. Any idea about the copyright ??
