Except for the fact that Intels CPUs were always at least twice as fast as IBMs offerings.
If he had chose Intel from the get go, the transition from OS9 to OSX would have been simple. I remember Mac owners being horrified when he changed over.
Well they shouldn't be surprised because they switched processors 12 years earlier making a similar transition necessary. Don't know why they initially choose the Motorolas as the earlier Apples didn't use them but the were probably a very good reason for it at the time. When they did Apple I the processor they choose was about 1/8th of the cost of an Intel or Motorola. They simply couldn't afford them.

don't use any third-party audio interfaces, do you?
I didn't, either, but a LOT of people here on KVR were PISSED that their vendors had to do so much work to get out Leopard-compatible drivers were available.

Say what you like about Windows, but drivers for old hardware are often still supported in new releases, right from Microsoft.

You're not really suggesting that Apples track record with backwards compability would be better than Microsofts,do you ? Because that is just plain wrong, whatever way you choose to look at it. Apple vs MS thread bore me but this one just had to be addressed. It's not even an opinion. Try and load a 10 year old plugin, hell even a 3 year old will probably do,on the latest MacOSX and see how that goes.

Not saying keeping backwards compability is necessary a great thing all the time but to claim that Apple does it better than MS is just plain wrong. Hell, it's even part of their business strategy. See the removal of floppy disks etc.

Please do, actually the only one that I really care about is Expose and it's so obvious that micro soft copied the functionality for Arrow Point or whatever they called it...

Just on the subject of iPad processor choice of the A4 which came up in passing. I don't think x86 chips were ever in the running for this sort of application. ARM and ATOM other smart phone oriented processors definitely are and, perhaps in time, the new NVidia and AMD SOC chips will offer the right kind of power/performance ratio.

The reason is that power consumption of current desktop and laptop chips is way too high. Phone processors can now do with one watt what desktop machines did with a hundred watts a decade ago. Lightweight touchscreen gizmos will build on phone and netbook technology and will have features like "instant on" built into their design spec.

Perhaps my price is "too high" for this bunch. A lot of people on KVR are very cheap and won't buy until the price is bare bone minimum.

okay, a fine point, perhaps...the audio outs of a stock Mac are TECHNICALLY an audio interface, n'est-pas?

that's just it...i'm not claiming anything of the sort...just pointing out that there are also problems when software is paired with a hardware that has infinite configuration permutations

it may have changed now, bu twhe i was trying to put together a pc for protools compatibiity, i was pretty much advised to get a mac, if only because the hardware configuration was a 'known' quantity

i don't have any need to feel apple is better...i just know that after cubase, sonar and protools on pc, that logic on osx is what works for me.....logic was fine on pc, but i really enjoy the osx experience, even if it could be proved to be not as good as vista etc....it works for me

history may repeat itself and it may not...i think that regardless of it's low share in the hardware market, it has a high share in both the audio and video production markets....i think apple may, indeed , have been a bit brutal in the past but now they have a more solid foundation, i find it unlikely they will make such drastic moves...but it could happen....

Yea, that's why I've been saying for a while now. Just look in any thread with "Apple" or an Apple product in the subject. You'll find a certain member trolling in each of them.

that's a thin piece of ice...stand on it, if you wish

who, here , is using them as an audio interface for anything other than temporary scenarios ??
