Ok, I have 80 "credits" from the group buy, but need to make a comment.

@TH2: w/o the long boring reason why I have it, there are some absolute GEMS in this, even if you are not into blistering gain. The "lynchbox" is just absolutely BEAUTIFUL! There are several different versions (which I'm sure the casual user doesn't know about) and from a fantastic "blackface" to blistering gain (the ultra) you can get it all. Now, the "impulse" cab with the recabinet is really good, of course I use the full version of recabinet.

For the blistering lead/gain stuff I use the T2 randall! WOW! Heavy, crisp, OOOZING with gain. A little eq and it's just awesome. The "brunetti" and THD amps are really great too, but they are totally unique so combos are ymmv.

The "delay" stomp is really a hidden gem. I HATE breverb though  Tubenine is good, some of the mod stuff is good, but that isn't my cup o tea usually.

Now, where AT3 shines is some stuff NOBODY talks about. "Shape shifter" is a guitarist trem dream! The leslie cabs are off the hook, and I like the anger (clean or heavy) and the jetcity 20. Haven't tried the carvin yet, waiting to see if they don't take TOO long on "new" models (but not holding my breath :hihi: )

I've just upgraded to AMPLITUBE 3.9c which includes the "shape Shifter" you mention. I'll give it a try soon (I'm full at work right now) and post my considerations.

Kuassa Creme is my personal favorite, I love that vintage sound..
No band limits, aliasing is the noise of freedom!

Post

I tried KUASSA CREME once and didn't like it at all, too harsh and treblish for my taste. Perhaps I have to give it a second try and do some more tweaking. I've heard and read some very good impressions about this software.

Post

None of the above!!!!!

The 3 Kuassa's, TH2 and Head Case.

Love Kuassa, Love TH2, Love AT3..

Just my 2 cents here...
Every amp sim, or virtual amp has its good points and I don't believe there is any one silver bullet for all situations. IK's AT has a head that I personally cannot do without and thats the Copper. Its fantastic and I have been trying to match it for years.(IK 1 Ken 0 haha) I thought I came close to matching it a couple times with different versions of the Honken but its still not the same as the Copper. Copper just has this awesome 3d type sound to it. ... However, I would not use that amp for everything..

For a more "Woody" type of high gain amp sound I would use TH2. I know.. WTF does "Woody" mean? The only way I can explain what I mean is by saying that you get the impression of the weight of the cabinet. If you stop the strings from ringing and just stroke across the 5th and 6th strings with a "real" cranked 4x12 you'll get this heavy sounding (weighty) thud. Most sims don't get that right, TH2 does.

Now Kuassa, whats to say about them, they are just plain awesaome. everything vintage sounds great through that sim, high gain works out pretty damn good too. My #1 between all three mentioned is Kuassa...

Just my 2 cents..

Hey...seems i'm the only one who think that TSE X40 is an absolutely astonishing amp-sim? to be onest ALL the TSE plugins made by Onquel, TSE808(!!!), TSE B.O.D, TSE R47(!!!), TSE X50, TSE X30 are absolutely astonishing...to me all his plugins have that "real feel", maybe because his modeling techniques are serious modeling techniques (LTSpice analysis and component-modeling-based approach, no shaper-like approach).......for free....
A really great, generous, genial developer :-)

The day he will work on a more vintage-like amp-sim i'll be a super-happy man, because right now, with X40 and all his amp-sims, i've to keep the gain at ridiculously low levels to play crunchy sounds :D

However....Chapeau to you, Onquel :)

When people mention AT3, TH2, Guitar Rig etc., it would be nice if you would tell which individual amps you like. I've really been diggin' the Fender Princeton in AT3 lately.

Post

I've decided I mostly don't like any. I'm a do a shoot out later (WARNING, I SUCK AT GUITAR) but it will give you an idea of what certain things sound like.

OR, if nobody is interested, I'll just pass :hihi:

The candidates will all be x64: GR, AT, rockrack, TH2, and Sgear. I will mostly be concentrating on heavier tones but I'll take requests. Gonna be simple.....gonna come up with a wanky part, and move it onto the the different sims in LIVE under one group with valhallavintage verb.

What duya think?

I personally like:

IK: SLO-100, Anger, Orange (RockerVerb 50, Thunderverb 200 and Tiny Terror) - to a lesser extent the Jet City 100 and Modern Tube Lead.

TH2: Randall T2, Brunetti R-Evo, Slo

Studio Devil: Soldano, Mesa, ADA Preamp

I use 90% high-gain tones, occasionally use clean (Studio Devil Fender, Matchless and Vox - IK Anger, Fender Twin Reverb).

Today I did some test riffs and managed to get almost identical Soldano sounds from SD, IK and TH2 - I used TSE808 to drive the heads and passed the signal though the same IRs on Recabinet 3 and Redwirez with mixIR2 (which I'm thinking about using together and they appear to complete each other).

Hibidy, I'm very interested in shoot-outs.

i like the red and blue plexi's in guitar rig, use them for just about everything.

used to own a real 1959slp and i had extensive mods to circuit done, including replacing the stock output transformer with a c1998 dagnall which is the same they used from 1968 to 1970. i used to crank it to 5-7, sometimes I would even dime the volume on both channels if I was mad at the band. with the EQ dimed, presence on 5 or 6... it was like you could swim in the tone. talk about dimension. the dynamic response to picking was just unreal, forget multi channel amps, its unneccesary with a cranked plexi, the range from clean to all out distortion just from picking dynamics is incredible.

the guitar rig plexi's arent even close but they are what I use for now. they are a lot better than amplitubes marshalls. the softube virtual amp is pretty close, not an actual plexi though its a JCM800 model and it's really good.
Has anybody ever really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?
