It's true some like the excitement, and usually they can't stay in business that long, but there are some great productions done on the lam where at least some of the crew go on to make a good living.

No way. The acoustic modeling folks will be able to do lots of new things on multicore. Not my speciality. Youll have to ask them.

Sort of thinking 2-5 years ahead. Could go two ways. The videocard people want to open up their physics modeling engines, and the cpu people want 64 cores. People starting MSc degrees now will be plannning for that.

No prices change with time, when there is a swell of money in the world the prices will go up again, this is true in the hardware world as well, companies lower their prices If no one is buying then raise them once the market evens out. This is economics and is not just happening in this market but in others as well.. Like house prices etc etc.

That's true also. I think the mainstream media likes to simplify the oscillations and make out it's either down or up. But now Microsoft has an internal economy larger than the entire nation of Spain, it tends to set its own pattern, and everyone else has to go along with it. Including the government. Some time ago the White House wanted to change the law to give employees better rights, and Allen said it was too expensive, so if it became law, he'd fire all the developers in Washington and move overseas.
