I find it hard lately, to get really excited about another compressor or eq,
on the other hand, since I'm getting these for free ... :)

btw,

I compared UAD's DBX to NI's and liked UAD's better on electric bass, on acoustic bass it was NI's time to shine, but strictly because of the dry/wet knob, this really made a huge difference.

cheers,

k
I wish someone who has both would post examples :D :D :D :D :D
I could do it on Sunday. Could you send me a track to work on?

What settings do you need tested/compared?

I have a few projects of my own here that I could use, but if you need something else compressed, do tell.

cheers,

k
No, just a general thing. What do you use it for? What is about the SPL that you like so much? It's just really hard to understand the diffs.

On this (unfinished) track I used only the NI comps. Never used the UAD DBX160 very often but with the NI DBX 160 this could be changed. Heavy used on the bass here... 1176 on sounds with more transients and the LA2A on "smoother" sounds like pads.

Nice! But we need a before/after :P

I think I heard part of a previous version on his website, so maybe that's before, unless it's the same. I thought it sounded different, though. I'm going back into the bowels of the NI site to see if I can find anymore on these GR VC versions.

So, here's a big question that I've NEVER understood with comps like this.

Limiting. There seems to be no such thing as all of these (ni, ik, doesn't matter) DON'T LIMIT. I don't get it. Lots of stuff leaks through.

They are mine now PAYTON!

Now, I can save presets and save inside projects

OK... been testing these plugs every day since the re-release.

I like all of them but..
...so far I like the VC76 the most, followed by the VC2A and than the VC160. (yep, the tables have turned :D ... I guess the VC160 is more likely to get some likes at 1st since it's a hard-knee compressor and it goes well on drums)

I can't believe how good these sound!

If I won't spend all $$ on some more necessary things during this Black Friday deals, I'll surely consider getting these! :)

The dbx emu on bass guitar is devine. I've been playing more bass lately so that is kinda my shining start here. I also like it on kicks. Punchy!

I've been playing around with the VC bundle and decided to get the VC76 after like 5 minutes :o ; really good on vocals and drums!
I also like the VC2A, but I still have to decide if I'll get the bundle or just the 76... I guess it will be the bundle :D

I didn't have too much time to test the 160 yet, but what I don't really get is how to make it sound good on drums. It enhances the attack a little, but this also boost the signal by a few dB if at the same subjective loudness; also cuts out a lot of highs.
Do you have any tips how to use this? I set the threshold not exceeding 5dB gain reduction (if applied more it gets too 'clicky') and ratio to 3:1.

Try the VC160 on a 808BD!
.. bring the thresh up and down and hear what it's doing to the attack.
it's like fine-tunning the PW of the punch.

This is a "sweetspot" compressor, set it to sound nice even if you over-compress a bit and than use the dry signal to balance it out.

In fact.. all of these vintage compressors are sweetspot compressors.. but the 160 takes the cake for this.

...and boy do I love the way they sound! :D

To me, chaining the VC 76 with a VC 2A is the best discovery I made with this bundle.

At least on vocals, with the 76 catching the peaks (3dB GR) and the 2A for leveling (5dB GR), it's perfect !

Thanks for the tip! I tried that today and I must say I'm still not overly impressed by the 160...

Anyway, I just consider it a free add-on, because I'm getting the bundle anyway! :D

1176 + LA2A is a classic vocal chain
