To be honest, I haven't tried their support yet. I usually just wait quietly for the stuff to mature. And S1 has mostly been good for me, can't say that, but this stuff with first organizing my folders and not being able to refresh them, turning into losing plugins totally, was just way over the top now (combined with the few other issues I mentioned).
I'll try resetting the list again and if it then fails to find the plugins it used to, I'll send them a ticket tomorrow. It doesn't make sense though that they passed through before (with an earlier version of the software).
I just don't want a yet another host, I already got two and even that makes me feel there's one too many (plus I already got half a dozen others that I don't use regularly). I can get around with having way too many plugins but getting to know a host takes a lot of time.

Not really. If you need help with a specific issue, like with plugs not loading, the best / first place to ask is on the user forum. I know some others can't do that, not having a legit license, but people like yourself who are registered users should not ignore that obvious resource if you're frustrated over something.

I get the feeling that something is at work here that goes beyond needed to stop using S1. There has to be a logical reason why it crashes so much. Unlike sonar where you have tons of people complaining about the same thing, this is not something I hear regularly about S1.
If you've been moving VST's around lately, I'm already looking at that as a culprit. Why would you move them around? All vst's should be in one folder.
Synthedit/maker plugs are NOTORIOUS for causing issues in hosts (all of them) I know, some have no problems, but plenty do.
It's a pain but my humble recommendation is reinstalling S1 clean. The license will be fine for the same machine. I'd have all the updated plugs reinstalled, and the SE/M plugs introduced one by one.
I know it's a PITA, but considering S1 isn't a crash happy host, there has to be some logical reason you are not able to use it.
One other thing, if you have an older underpowered computer that could be part of the problem too.

And if you use the selection tool you must mark a range and there is a bug:
