i wonder which "development is not over" you talking about, we use the same scales like the classical composers 200 years ago.

in 200 years the people will still hear classical composers (and use the same scales of course).

if some aliens landing here looking like you, then its of course another story - maybe they invent a new culture?
Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

There is scarely any such thing as 'music theory'. The word 'theory' connotes some kind of scientific endeavor or something like it, and music isn't done like that usually. 'Music theory' happens when we codify practice, make what happened [which is believed to work consistently and well] available in terms for study, and in order to form language in order to convey the sense of what you're DOING
Yup. That is what I get from Deutch's article as well. Music theory arises when you analyze music already composed to find out what happens in it. Fortunately this confirms that the development of music basically happens on terms of exactly the music and not anything apart from- or over and above it. Composers compose and that's it. However according to Deutch the music theory of the past was often conducted with the (misguided) purpose of finding prescriptive mathematical universals. So it strikes me that the approach offered by the math theorists in this thread is not anything new at all. Actually it seems to be a very conservative approach that in my view also become deeply reactionary to music as a free ever evolving art form. Math of music should at best be applied as descriptions and not explanantions and even less as instructions.

Yes classical music like techno and industrial. You are a genius. Now shouldn't you get off your mother's PC and get out of the trailer before she returns with another customer? Or else she may not share her crack with you tonight.

Whatever. This discussion is probably too boring for an omnipotent genius like you. Go enjoy a cross lighting instead with your friends.

well you entered the thread implying that all who take the topic serious are idiots. And that would imply me, so no, there is no problems but those of your own.

This thread doesn't make any sense anymore... also, what's with the personal insults?

Why our scales have seven notes? Because:

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, all good children go to heaven!
