I am a happy reason user (version 7) and agree that there doesn't seem to be much to this update. Kuassa has Vermilion, Creme and Bass Amp REs - I have both of the guitar ones; they are cheap ($29 each, IIRC) and very good. I can't imagine the new Amp device being better than those (not worth $129, at any rate). I will wait for Reason 9 to upgrade . . . . .

a ton of different views here... i do agree that the Reason 8 update is lackluster... i think the best practice for purchasing Reason updates is purchasing every other update... i am currently on version 6.5 and i am planning on updating to 8... in the Reason 7 update... i liked the fact that you could run Reason on one machine without a dongle... i like the volume control on/in rack but it was not worth the $129 update price... the way i am looking at it now is $65 for the Reason 7 update and $65 for the Reason 8 update... last point about Propellerheads... what i have notice is that with their updates they add code into the program that they are testing for the .5 release which in most cases are free... therefore... when updating Reason you are actually investing into the .5 update also...
therefore... we could complain about the pricing and features in the update... but who said you have to purchase every single update... just purchase every other one or every third one...

Thank you very much for sharing this, looks like one of the better android music apps out thereAstralExistence wrote: you know what most sad. this daw http://www.singlecellsoftware.com/caustic
which does run on windows is made by one man and in terms of development time/idea quality it shits all over reason.
When it comes to Reason I followed throught to version 6, but have downgraded to version 4 after that since I felt much of the fun and workflow disappeared more and more from version 5 and up. The new update, to me, just confirm that feeling, and the GUI seems even more distant from what I prefer for a good workflow.
And about the new RE's, I have been fascinated with how much of what is released can be done already with some creative patching in Reason 4. At the same time, the fascination users seems to have of some of the RE's makes me wonder if the old programming spirit has somehow got a bit lost in favor of 'out of the box' solutions.
I still hope for a more 'modular' version of Reason in the future, where it will be possible to install Reason without Record. Until then I will save my money.

Actually, they're back in the black and in a pretty big way. 2010 was their previous profitable year and 2013 more than tripled that performance, possibly their best year yet. They were in the red through 2011 and 2012, though I can only speculate on the reasons why. It would appear their operating costs skyrocketed during that time as they significantly increased employee headcount. This was the Reason 6/6.5/Rack Extension development and release period. Reason 7 must have sold like hotcakes last year.Frantz wrote:I tried Reason before the invention of MIDI Out and realized it wasn't for me. But these days, they have become an innovation center. I think that most of their "big" loss that was reported in 2012 was due to the fact that they chose to shut down their hardware department. That's my take on it anyway.Tronam wrote:Actually, they're back in the black and in a pretty big way. 2010 was their previous profitable year and 2013 more than tripled that performance, possibly their best year yet. The 2013 profit doesn't come close to making up for the loss from 2011-2012. They are skating on thin financial ice no matter how you slice it.Tronam wrote: Actually, they're back in the black and in a pretty big way. 2010 was their previous profitable year and 2013 more than tripled that performance, possibly their best year yet.

And why don't you post the entire picture? If you look at their actual assets reported in 2013-12 they are nowhere near "thin financial ice" no matter how YOU slice it, so don't spread disinformation please.Frantz wrote:The 2013 profit doesn't come close to making up for the loss from 2011-2012.
