Digits, I dig It.
AU == Apple's Apple lock-in format. I understand if you're a logic user or something that only supports AU, but any other cross-platform host that supports VST should use it - you can load VST projects in the same DAW across platforms without issue for the most part...
Indeed a Logic user. I went as far as to partition my disc to set Windows up on my Mac and Reaper as an host in order to enjoy the full experience of Windows only VSTis and I just did not like it .Now since making music is meant to be ( for me ) a pleasurable past time I jumped back to the other side of my partition, moved from 9 to X and am quite happy with that. However I have just started a trial period with Live and am finding it quite interesting and intuitive , so who knows ?
I've done full-length projects (some OSC, some not) in Live, Reaper & Bitwig on Mac. They are all pretty good. Reaper is the clunkiest to work with sometimes and has some sorely missing features the others have, but has some great qualities of its own... I've actually done the last couple projects in Bitwig and been pretty happy. A few issues still to iron out, and missing features (they're working on) though... but some of the things they 'fixed' over Live are just awesome.
Aside from the Midi features in Reaper, what are the things that bother you the most?

As far as I can remember what I liked the best about Reaper ( compared to Logic) was the automation features. What I really disliked the most was the cosmetics which might sound futile .

Well, the MIDI is a bit awkward sometimes but works reasonably well. Sometimes the timing seems to get off worse than the other hosts... but that and other MIDI quirks/etc. aside...

One of my biggest irritations problem is the vertical size of my projects. In order to stack a few instances of synths together, I have to make separate tracks, which ends up with 4 or 5 full pages of a project to scroll through after it gets reasonably complex; similarly adding envelopes increases this size annoyingly. It actually becomes a problem because I frequently get lost trying to find the tracks I'm looking for. Both Live & Bitwig have plugin stackers you can use on a single track, so at least that portion of the issue isn't present. There's probably a way to work with it better in that regard, but I never figured it out after nearly 2 years of using it...

Another big issue are the envelopes, without adding a bunch of keyboard shortcuts (which I don't want to do much of because I'll lose them as frequently as I switch computers or reformat). There are some usability issues with them, like moving regions will not always insert points where they should go and you'll have to go back and redo envelopes you've already done. Sorry it's been a couple months since I used it so I forget some of the other annoyances.

I don't know if it helps but I use the tilda key to minimize all the tracks and then just press the arm button on the ones I select to bring them up. I also use a 2 monitor setup though, so that might be another reason why I am not bothered by this all that much.

Yeah, I am still getting into envelopes. I think it is going to be one of those things which you have to memorize the shortcuts for as I didn't find going through context menus all that comfortable.

Honestly, the main reason I asked this question was not to defend Reaper but to figure out what good workflow features I might be missing out on. Perhaps, I should have asked what features on Live and Bitwig that you miss on Reaper

With ODSay I put up to 3 instances in one track. With Digits i separated them from beginning. Both has pros and cons. With separated instanes it faster to mute, solo or mix things, instead of bypass and changing wet. But it blows up the project and makes things hard to find especially on one monitor. Work with folders and collapsing them should help.

I found in past that some VSTi didn't have MIDI Through, then you have to separate anyway.

Digits by Extent of the Jam, didn't know this before but it seems to be nice. :)

The idea was to take that dusted standard DnB drumloop and give them a new chance. I started to rebuild it with Digits 8) and then lets see what happens. The piano came in giving me some House styled chords. Some other stuff was added and suddenly it started talking to me. :D OMG What a lovely robotic voice. So I wrote some lyrics for this song :D

Ok enough, listen now, hope you have same fun as I had making this.

Anybody got Digit to work well in C7.5 x64 ?

I tried the 32bit version (no 64 on PC right ?) but C7.5 didn't like it...
(cubase not responding, 1st time I have this with C7 :-( )

Yes - I tried it on 64bit cubase 7.5 also, but it caused hangs and big crashes. The program locks when trying to load the synth - at best. Something to do with the VST Bridge. :(
Only way I could use it is in 32bit cubase. Works fine in there.

Did you guys use JBridge? One of the best out there: http://jstuff.wordpress.com/jbridge/

I used to when I was using Cubase 32bit, never since :D
I might give it a try, or use C5 32bit for one more project....

I've never used JBridge.
I have installed both 32 and 64 bit cubase. It seems when using one synth there is little advantage (if any) using the 64 bit version anyway - certainly not seen any performance improvement, so quite happy to stick to 32bit for the moment.

Yeah that's totally what I do. Also, if you ever have memory constraints in 32bit, just use 32->32 bridging with Jbridge

Curious, has Lou G (Digits developer) stopped by this thread? He's a friend of a friend of mine, last time I saw him (about 5 years ago) he was working for Muse (Receptor people, KVR's sponsor) so he shouldn't be too hard to find. Maybe I'll get off me arse and make an OSC submission one of these days!
